For the Science Fiction Lover this is a must have volume. I was not much of a reader until I purchased the Nook, but now I can't get enough of the SCi-Fi stuff. This volume has about every author you can think of, and a lot of authors some of us probably never heard of, but they are all excellent writers of this early Sci-Fi genre. There are some typo's and duplicate pages at times but mostly extremely fascinating and imaginative reading. Once you get into a lot of these stories you just cannot put the nook down. I have only finished about 10% of the stories and I have skipped around the book a little bit and as expected there are some stories you will really get into and others not so much, but that is the way most reading goes. On the whole I would recommend this collection for anyone who is a Sci-Fi Lover.

If you want a book to read yourself to sleep, keep looking, because this giant anthology will lure you in and keep you turning the pages! My copy has a table of contents, so apparently that was corrected after some of the other reviewers complained. Navigating the table of contents on my old non-color Nook's tiny touchscreen is a bit clunky, but at least it's there. My only complaint is that almost every story lists an illustrator's name after the author's name, but there are no illustrations! I would love to have seen the artwork from the old magazines, especially when some of the picture captions are right there in the text, or right under the title. Lots of food for thought in these stories from another age.

Excellent stories, hours of great reading. Table of contents & index listed under contents in the on-screen menu.

Too many of the old stories that remind us just how bad pulp sci-fi could, but the good stuff is good. It appears to be some sort of character recognition copy of the original, and the sloppy, sloppy editing can be VERY annoying. OK for a buck, I guess.

Overall an enjoyable stroll through the "golden age" of SF. What kept me from giving it the full five stars were the several serialized stories that were presented out of sequence and there were several stories repeated. It seems to me if you're going to take the time to scan this much material, a bit of time spent on basic editing wouldn't have hurt

How could an ebook publisher be so incompetent as to put out a 1,300+ page (by epub pagination, which admittedly is a bit unreal) omnibus without giving it a table of contents? Of course there's good stuff here but it's not easy to find. And I'd like to register a complaint about B&N's habit of putting the author on one story in an anthology as the "author" of that anthology.

I picked up the sample, so perhaps this is different in the purchased version. But the table of contents that you can pop up only contains the titles of the stories, not the authors. For any anthology -- and this is a very large one -- I want to look at a list of authors and titles as I chose which story to read next.

Too big with no table of contents

Highly recommended!!! I am still working my way through all of these short stories and discovering previously unread stories from some of my favorite authors who are no longer with us such as H. Beam Piper. A lot of these stories were written/published when a lot of us were children or before we were even born, but they are still very enjoyable to read. And as the saying goes: "Today's science fiction is tomorrow's reality" and a number of these stories reflect that. Not all of the stories that I have read rate the 5-star rating, but I still consider this a must have and for the price a fantastically great deal.
