Editorial Reviews

Booknews
This book/CD-ROM package aims to close the gap between theory of finance and the use of scientific financial management applications. It provides a finance-oriented overview of data mining, neural networks, and fuzzy logic, then reassesses the basic tools of financial risk management, such as portfolios and options, and further assesses real options as a means of evaluating R&D and capital investments. Offers detailed tutorials on topics such as visual financial models and divisional cash flow analysis, illustrated with real case studies. The CD-ROM contains financial models and related software. The author is founder of a consulting firm in risk management, and teaches finance at Fordham University's Graduate School of Business. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

    Deserves to be revised

When I started reading the book, I expected to be confronted with state-of-the-art material. In fact the first topics were quite challenging and reinforced my initial expectations. Basically it started to scratch the most defying chapters of the book. Then it came the disappointment. The introduction to Options can really discourage anyone. The editor overlooked too many silly mistakes and that kills the trust relationship one establishes with the author of a book on such an advanced subject. From then on I could no longer be comfortable with it, and lost my interest (not for the subject but for the book). The most I got from a query to the editor was recognition of the mistakes identified, and a certain surprise on his behalf to find how they got through supervision. I would say this reaction falls short from his responsibilities. I wouldn¿t advise anyone to purchase this edition of the book. If they can come up with a new revised edition, this may still turn out to be an interesting purchase, but for now the most I can say is that it¿s a challenging experience counting the mistakes and pointing out the necessary corrections!

    AWESOME

Highly challenging book that sheds tremendous insight into a subject more often deluged with misused jargons. Would defintely be interested in checking out other books by the same author.
