“I received Scion’s Freedom from the author in a review swap.”
Although Scion’s Freedom is shorter than most stories that I normally read, I truly enjoyed it! Ms. Walker has a unique ability to tell a story and to describe a scene in short, concise sentences. Still, the reader is able to visualize the scene and the characters and isn’t left with the feeling that there is too much missing information.
The story begins with the heroine Cassie Daniels, a vampire princess, being talked into attending a boring party by her best friend and protector, Erica. Deciding to make the best of it, Cassie accepts David’s offer to indulge in a little harmless fun, no strings attached. However, as passion consumes her, she loses control and bites David. Once her bloodlust has been sated, she regrets her loss of control and wipes the memory of their encounter from David’s mind.
Therefore, when David has to inform Cassie, just a few weeks later, that her friend Erica has been murdered, he has no idea who she is. Cassie remembers everything though and as circumstances force the two of them together, she realizes that the mutual attraction that they’d felt on the night they’d met was really something much deeper. A magical bond, which once completed, cannot be broken. She confesses the truth to David and once he gets past his hurt feelings, he asks Cassie to restore the memory of their first night together.
The bond between them continues to grow as they give in to passion, even as an unknown danger is stalking them both.
Both Cassie and David are such strong yet vulnerable characters. I really enjoyed that aspect of the story as well as the new take on the supernatural world. I am really looking forward to reading the other books in the series!
