Overview

A moving study about the pain of growing up and losing a lifetime friend.

Dennis receives a call from his mother telling him that his best friend from boyhood, Scooter Thomas, has died. Shaken, Dennis packs for the funeral and recalls their relationship in brief, poignant scenes, during which he plays both himself and other friends from his past, some of whom went to college or got married. Scooter dropped out of life, however, and took a job in the Post Office. He talked of going to California, but gradual disenchantment overcame him and his hopes remained unfulfilled. Ultimately, the play looks at the choices we make when youthful expectations meet the realities of adulthood.

I have performed a selection from this play in theatre competition and all I can say is that this play is amazing. It is complicated, yet simple. It works on a variety of different levels. In college acting competition, this was the play that won 1st place throughout the entire state of Louisiana in duo reading. It is unbeatable.
