“Andrew Kaplan represents a gold standard for thriller writing.”
—David Morrell, New York Times bestselling author of The Brotherhood of the Rose

Espionage fiction is hotter than ever, as evidenced by the phenomenal success of Daniel Silva, Alex Berenson, and Ted Bell—and Andrew Kaplan plays the spy game as well as anyone out there. Following his stunning thriller, Scorpion Betrayal (which superstar author Harlan Coben called, “one of the smartest, swiftest and most compelling spy novels I’ve read in years”),  Kaplan plunges his tough, code-named intelligence operative into the dangerous fray once more in Scorpion Winter. The ex-CIA agent-turned-freelance spy is on assignment in Russia, disturbing a hornet’s nest of assassination and political intrigue that could erupt in all-out global war in this electrifying espionage thriller that will enthrall Robert Ludlum, Brad Thor, and Vince Flynn fans.

Publishers Weekly
In Kaplan’s intricate third thriller featuring the ex-CIA agent code-named Scorpion (after Scorpion Betrayal), Ukrainian businessman Vadim Akhnetzov wants to hire Scorpion to prevent the assassination of one of the two candidates running for president of Ukraine. The death of either candidate could result in a war with Russia that could escalate into an international conflict involving Europe and the U.S. Scorpion, who agrees after negotiating a hefty fee, soon finds himself in Ukraine teamed with a stunningly beautiful political adviser, Iryna Mikhailivna Shevchenko. Many people die as Scorpion and Iryna try to prevent war, more than a few at Scorpion’s hand, while tangling with several national secret police agencies, the regular police, the Ukrainian mafia, and the CIA. Scorpion learns, once again, there are no friends in the spy business and that life—one’s own and those of your enemies—exists on a knife-edge of deceit. The Scorpion series, already one of the best, if not the best, spy thriller series just keeps getting better and better. "Scorpion Winter" the latest outing of Kaplan's ex-CIA agent spy is brilliant. From its opening in a Siberian prison to a CIA mission in Yemen to Scorpion's attempt to stop an assassination in Ukraine, the action and suspense are nonstop. I could not put "Scorpion Winter" down. The chapters in Chernobyl are among the most eerie and chilling thriller scenes I have ever read. It's also more than a thriller, dealing with choices that every key character including Scorpion is forced to make and in the process, these choices force them to confront who they really are. And the ending is a shocker, a complete surprise yet totally logical. Awesome!
