Scott Kelby, the man who changed the "digital darkroom" forever with his groundbreaking, #1 bestselling, award-winning book The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers, shows which button to push, which setting to use, when to use them, and hundreds of the most closely guarded photographic "tricks of the trade" to get budding photographers shooting dramatically better-looking, sharper, more colorful, more professional-looking photos with their digital camera every time they press the shutter button.

Scott tackles the most important side of digital photography--how to take pro-quality shots using the same tricks today's top digital pros use (and it's easier than you'd think). Each chapter is packed with plain English tips on using flash, shooting close up photography, travel photography, shooting people, and even how to build a studio from scratch, where he demystifies the process so anyone can start taking pro-quality portraits today! Plus, he's got full chapters on his most requested topics, including loads of tips for landscape photographers, wedding photographers, and there's an entire chapter devoted to sharing some of the pro's secrets for making your photos look more professional, no matter what you're shooting.

    Great for beginners

I bought these books for my husband to go with our new Canon 50D. They were recommended by a friend from work, and they do not disappoint. Well written and easy to follow. We love the pictures that show the difference between various settings. It felt like we learned so much just from the first chapter! We take pics in a variety of settings from nature photography, to action shots of the kids, to portraits and products. These books cover how to get great shots from any situation. Although, my husband has some experience with photography, I do not. These books suited both of us. There was enough technical information for him, and enough explanation behind the tech stuff for me. The only reason I rated them four stars is because they seemed a bit pricey.

    Very useful 3 volume set.

I am a novice photo nut looking for the right information enabling me to shoot photos with my Canon 50D. Scott Kelby's Digital Photography books are precise and to the point as stated in his introductions within his books. They are quick to read but hold volumes of tips and techniques. I was able to compose great shots quickly and understand my camera and its functions. You will experience photography as being on a photo shoot with Scott Kelby.

Digital Photography for Serious DSLR Users

Scott Kelby's three volumes give his readers a tremendous collection of helpful, real world information on how to make the most of the tools provided by modern digital SLRs. I was really looking for information that was current (not just warmed-over advice from film days), and would show me how to take full advantage of my modern equipment - and these books fully satisfied!

These are (thankfully) not just more Photoshop how-to books, nor are they focused (solely) on composition (i.e., what makes a great image vs. just an OK one). Books on those topics are good, and are easy to obtain. THESE books, on the other hand, tell you WHAT you need to own, and HOW to use it for maximum effectiveness.

I will caution that there is a little bit of repetition across the three volumes (not necessarily a bad thing), and there are chapters that may not be of interest to every aspiring photographer at every point of his or her development (e.g. setting up a studio is not one of my goals). Nevertheless, I learned a lot, even from those chapters, that will help me be a better photographer.

I would add that each of the three volumes has great information that the others lack, and the three-pack will give you the best "bang for the buck" - unless of course you already own one volume!

    Excellent Book for Beginners!

I bought this book hoping to pick up a thing or two with photography, and man, this did the trick! The author writes as if he is your friend on a shoot with you, while you're asking questions. He answers them all. He breaks things down by cheap, medium costs, and expensive (for those who have money to spend), but I like how his tips are easy to follow and not super complicated. Looking forward to reading more books by him.

    Excellent "How To" guides

A great set of books on how you actually accomplish the tasks in hand. They tell you what you need to do without getting embroiled in all of the theory and physics behind it, which may be nice to know but isn't going to help you now. A very light writing style and easy to pick up at any time as you just go to the pages or section of interest; they don't have to be read from cover to cover. I'm finding them to be very informative.
