Meet the Author

MICHAEL MEJIA, exercise advisor and contributing editor to Men's Health magazine, is a strength and conditioning coach who owns and operates his own training facility in Long Island, New York. Coauthor of The Home Workout Bible, he designed the workouts for the popular Testosterone Advantage Plan.

JOHN BERARDI is a strength and nutrition specialist whose company specializes in designing strength and nutrition plans for elite athletes and recreational fitness buffs. He currently resides in Toronto, Canada.

As a trainer, I like reviewing weightlifting books and found this one to be most interesting. First of all, the book is written very well, interjecting humor that makes it hard to put the book down. Having said that, however, I did find it a tad bit disorganized at times- and I say that mainly because I had to flip around a bit here and there.

Anyway, the book is divided into two basic parts. The first is training to gain, which discusses the four part training phases. They're much too detailed to go into but they do give the reader a set path to follow that is well laid out. Part two? That would be "need to feed" which is the diet and eating part. Here again, its very detailed but emphasizes the reader getting enough calories- which the book says is absolutely essential to packing on the muscle.

Other goodies are interspersed throughout the book, such as discussions of determining what body type you are and determining your calorie needs. All in all, the book has a fun writing style and is clearly based on a certain amount of research that is cited here and there to back up its claims. Also recommend Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff for weightlifters struggling with a torn cuff or shoulder pain.

For those of us who have always believed that we can't put on size and muscle, this is the book for us. The authors explain in detail and with clarity how it is indeed possible for anyone to create the body they really want. The book is funny, readable with plenty of clear pictures of exercises and stretches for improving your body. ALso, it gives detailed nutritional information for those of us who want simple instructions and don't have culinary skills. Highly recommended! These authors are confident and experienced. I've already put on five pounds of lean muscle in one month.

I am very thankful I stumbled upon this book. As a 'skinny guy' it has helped me a lot. I have to admit I haven't followed their guidelines perfectly, but the basic principles I have installed into my own workout. I've seen gratifying results in very little time. Great book!

I bought this book to try and help me gain some weight and mainly make it be muscle. The exercises here are easy and awesome and some that I have never seen before. The food program part might be a little to much for a full time working person like myself. But hey when I look at the bottom line, so far I gained 5 pounds in about 2 months. You should definitely buy this book it will help you in more ways than one.

I have read other books by one of these auhtors and I knew it would be loaded with good information.I have given this book to my younger cleints who want to build size the natural way. Recommend this book and the book below for a strong overall balance to your workout program.

((Imma run out of space.O-o please pooooost.)) "Trade!" I yelled as I tossed him the flag, drawing my sword. He caught the banner ad dashed off with it gratefully, heading back to red base. I turned to face Clarrise. She sneered as she saw me. "Think YOU got what it takes to defeat ME?!" She laughed as she lashed out with her lightning rod. I dodged easily and charged at her, smirking. An expression of surprise crossed her face as she registered what I had just done. I ran straight at her still. The closer I got, the bigger she seemed to get. One big bowling ball with two bouncy pigtails, ripe for picking, I thought. Perfect. If I could just cover the vast distance from the ground to over her head... I was still charging. Just as I was about to run into the beast, I jumped, strning all my muscles and reaching for her springy pigtails. I snatched a hold on one, but just as my finger brushed the second, something caught hold of my foot and I was plucked from the air like a feather, her hair slipping out of my grasp. I swore. And then the ground was cold, hard, and unweloming. The wind was knocked from my lungs, and my vision was blurry. I could just make out a pounding in my skull as Clarrise's grotesque figure beamed down at me, relishing victory in a smug demeanor. She was laughing, but i couldn't hear it. She'd pulled me down! Oh, the nerve! My senses slowly flooded back. The pounding in my head turned to smashing. I took small and shallow breaths, now seeing clearly, and my hearing was fair enough. There was a kink in my back. Clarrise was holding her lightning rod above me with an evil smile. I clenched my jaw and braced myself for the electric shock as I stared defiantly into her amused gaze. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, something hurled itself at the hog. I sat upright and immediately regretting it, for my muscles screamed in protest, but I gaped at what i saw, nonetheless. Leo sat atop Clarrise's stomach, waving his hammer helplessly with his eyes squinted shut, yelling colourful language and things like, "Neveeerr! Don't you even TOUCH my girlfriend, you BEAST!" clarrise seemed even more surprised than me. I stiffled a sickening laugh, repulsed at the thought of being his girlfriend and feeling neauseated becaue of my headache. "You're on my team!" Clarrise screamed at leo. "And.... GIRLFRIEND?!" "Oh, did I say that?" Leo chuckled, grinning while his ears reddened. I scowled angrilly at him.
