Overview

The members of Germany's Tokio Hotel started their careers when they were in their early teens, and while they still look youthful on their album covers, they've obviously grown since their 2005 emo/punk-pop debut, Schrei. Comprised of translated versions of songs from Schrei and Zimmer 483, their English-language debut, Scream, opens with the title song and immediately highlights the most obvious change the band has undergone -- that of puberty. Fortunately, the lowering of lead singer Bill Kaulitz's vocal range (and subsequent lowering of the album's pitch) has not diminished the songs but enhanced them, bringing depth -- no pun intended -- and power to his work that was previously lacking. Tokio Hotel may have lost a bit of the innocent tone that endeared them to their early fans, but it has been replaced with a stronger, more assured sound that is just as appealing. That said, there is an interesting dichotomy that takes place on Scream -- while Tokio Hotel are growing up, they aren't grown up. The sound is polished and the melodies catchy, but the lyrics veer toward melodrama, especially on tracks that deal with social issues such as "Don't Jump" and "Forgotten Children." There's also a problem concerning the band's overall musicianship. While the performances from each of the members are solid, there's nothing exceptional or particularly inventive that takes place on the album. It could be a turn-off or disappointment for those hoping that age would give Tokio Hotel a rougher edge, but it's nothing to fault the band for. Despite the occasional misstep, Scream shows that the bandmembers are ready and able to embrace their growing abilities. [This version of Scream was released with three bonus tracks.]

Tokio Hotel is the biggest artist Germany has had for the past 2 decades and are breaking records not only in their country but all over Europe and australia. The band is composed by twin brothers Bill And Tom Kaulitz, George Listing and Gustav Schaffer. on this work they have compiled the best songs from their 1st album " Shrei" and their follow up " Zimmer 483" they are a great rock/pop band that will culminate your ears with songs that will make you jump right off your seat as well as others that will melt away your heart by the angelical voice of Bill.

This cd is great. The new pop sound sends electric shocks through your body. This is the English version of their first album shrei. I have been trying to find this album everywhere. They have a new sound that will soon be taking America by surprise I hope. The flow is fantastic. You can listen to this whenever you want. They have a song for you no matter what mood you’re in. Over all I love this cd I hope in the future they release their German version in the states but I believe the English version is better than the original.

Generic pop-rock songs, generic looks (not to mention a soft voice for such a hard look they try to evoke), and unimpressive instruments. YAY! I really don't understand why bands like this get signed.

Cris here from El Paso Texas writing a review for Scream America! The EP is here jut as a little Christmas gift to tie all the Tokio Hotel fans in the states over until their English album debuts supposedly on April 15th! And I must say so my self, it does! This two track EP can be played over and over again and it does not even begin to get boring! It's a good buy at only two bucks, a great Christmas gift for your friends! I rate five, straight up!

Tokio Hotel is so different from so many other bands and that's why I love them. Plus, the fact that they are foreign makes them more appealing. I can't wait for a full album release. Tokio Hotel is my first and only music obssession. I will totally support them all the way.
