Overview

Policemen and women, fire crews and ambulance teams all play an important role in our society. Now you can show these men and women how much their services are appreciated by creating a hand-made, personalized plaque just for them. Each pattern is drawn in crisp, black lines to make scrolling easy.
The patterns are designed to be "mixed and matched" to create a variety of plaques. Start with a central pattern for police, fire or EMS, then add a name or division on the outside ring. An alphabet wheel and additional patterns for each of the 50 states make the combinations endless.
When your pattern is complete, simply transfer it to the wood of your choice and cut it out. Basic cutting instructions help you choose wood and show you how to use spacers to give your finished plaque a three-dimensional look.

Great Ideas! A good starting place.

I am a beginner with scroll saw work and found this book to be very useful. The outer patterns are large and easily traced. You can either use tracing paper, or place the book on a flatbed scanner. You will either need to be able to draw your specific images in the center pattern, print and paste the image on paper, or use some sort of computer program and paste a digital image over your scanned image. I used a CAD program and pasted the template I scanned. I was then able to paste in the image of the organization, and use the programs tools to insert text where needed.
The instructions for cutting and assembly are clear enough to get you started. Templates are in black and white, and there is a wide variety to choose from and easily adapt. You can create many varieties with the use of a scanner or printer.
I do wish there was a little more text to describe some ideas on finishing, but I have some woodworking experience and will enjoy experimenting with some different ideas.
