Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This large pop-up book also says on the cover, "Squirmy, Scary, Prickly Creatures from the Deep." Think of the most terrifying residents of the ocean, and here they are, with their frightening faces leaping at you from pages that measure 11 by 19 inches. Some of them are so large they not only leap out of the pages, they leap above and below the pages, teeth first. The cast of characters is impressive—a green sea dragon, an orange lionfish, a tiger shark, a devil ray, a giant squid, and a viper fish. Waving lines of text accompany each creature. "If the seaweed is staring right back at you,/If fronds brush your arm like a leaf,/If a head like a horse makes you screech till you're hoarse,/ Then you are probably facing a sea dragon!" More boys than girls will likely enjoy this impressive production. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
