Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This large pop-up book also says on the cover, "Squirmy, Scary, Prickly Creatures from the Deep." Think of the most terrifying residents of the ocean, and here they are, with their frightening faces leaping at you from pages that measure 11½ by 19 inches. Some of them are so large they not only leap out of the pages, they leap above and below the pages, teeth first. The cast of characters is impressive—a green sea dragon, an orange lionfish, a tiger shark, a devil ray, a giant squid, and a viper fish. Waving lines of text accompany each creature. "If the seaweed is staring right back at you,/If fronds brush your arm like a leaf,/If a head like a horse makes you screech till you're hoarse,/ Then you are probably facing a sea dragon!" More boys than girls will likely enjoy this impressive production. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich

This is one for not only fish lovers but dinosauer afficionados as well!

My 3-yr. old nephew patiently waited until all the Christmas presents were distributed before he started opening his large pile of gifts. The second one he opened was "Pop-Up Sea Creatures"; and he first turned every page of the entire book, slowly studying each sea creature and then went the entire book again to his mother before he put it down and opened up the rest of his gifts. The pop-ups are well designed, three-dimentional for the most part, and have brief, interesting write-ups. I would put it in the same quality class as the Sabuda pop-ups albeit very appropriate for the designated age-range with its one pop-up per double page. It's one that should be cherished and kept for future generations.
