Can she save him from the darkness in his soul... or will it destroy them both? After her brother is killed in the Crimean War, innocent young Oriel Pembroke finds herself alone in the world. Disowned by the cruel father who has always despised her, she has nowhere to turn until she is taken under the wing of a glamorous relative she never knew: the former Duchess of Ellsworth, who has scandalized society by remarrying soon after her first husband’s death. At the opulent seaside estate of Ellsmere, Oriel thinks she has found a safe haven—but the darkly handsome young duke, Herron, believes otherwise. Haunted by the death of his father, he suspects that Ellsmere is sheltering a murderer.

Even as Oriel falls in love with the duke, she begins to fear that his grief and suspicion are turning to madness. When dangerous accidents start to befall both Herron and Oriel, however, she realizes that someone may be trying to stop them from discovering the truth about the past. And when someone from her past comes back into her life, she learns that he may hold the answer to the most horrifying secret of all...

InDTale.com - Beth Chamberlain
“With lush and intelligent prose, DeWees has crafted a beautiful and suspenseful novel that is a pure pleasure to read! The haunting setting and well drawn characters entice one to read on and on.” (five-star review)
Sweet Rocket - Ruby Jones
"Sea of Secrets has set such an impossibly high bar, I’m afraid any other new Gothics I find will never be able to meet it! … Anyone who thinks that popular genre fiction (especially romance) is written by talentless hacks need only pick up Sea of Secrets to see how off base that idea is. DeWees has written a book that can proudly sit on a shelf beside the best literary historical fiction of any day."

    Fantastic!

I admit I was a bit surprised at how thoroughly I enjoyed this book. It's definitely a page turner. I highly suggest starting it when you have a good chunk of spare time because you will not be able to put it down once you start.

"Sea of Secrets" has betrayal, love, intrigue and the paranormal. A great Gothic read from a very promising author.

Sea of Secrets by Amanda DeWees

    Rating 5*****

This book was provided by the author in exchange for honest literary review.

Everything about this novel is just amazing. It takes you on a trip through time were women still wore ball gowns and men knew what chivalry meant. Blending the rich details aristocrat life with betrayal, deception and murder made for a novel I couldn't get enough of.
Oriel is disowned by her father after the death of her brother. While digging around in he family bible, she learns she has powerful family ?. She then sets out to befriend the dutchess and hope for a station in her home. Dutchess Gwen does so much more for her long lost niece, she takes her in and makes her family.
Once she arrives at the Duke's beautiful estate, she learns that nothing is as it may seem. While their is every luxury known to man, the walls hold secrets....some of those that can cost lives. Oriel starts a journey of blossoming into womanhood. Never has she been free to live and experience life and suitors. Maybe even find a husband!
From the start there is strange happenings and a sense of foreboding. The author does such an awesome job of developing this plot. From the first pager it just draws the reader in. Each page is Better than the on before it!
The characters are real and have depth. Some of them I loved, some I seriously couldn't stand. That is a mark of a good author though. I am not usually a romance fan unless it Jas a paranormal factor, but The hint of a ghost story was just am added bonus to this story. Overall it is a recommended read for ages 16+ . This is one of those books you keep on the frequently read shelf, and reread it from time to time. Go get your copy today!!!!!

Amanda DeWess has done it AGAIN. Captured me into yet another book-a different book, but yet--amazing! I love a good adventure to what feels like another world, and this certainly is that. I felt like I could relate to some of what Oriel was feeling (ps-LOVE that name! If I were to have future children-I could see that being in the running) and how she was left, and especially the father! How ironic that the family is going through things and she has to find a way to cope through it, but in turning to...him. I didn't know quiet how I felt about him. When the father has a happening I thought for certain there were some secrets about to be divulged. This book does not let you down, probably one of the easiest reads, and gives you that escape you look for in a book. Looking forward to reading more from Amanda DeWess, incredible author!  I also highly recommend this book to all my friends and any potential readers, it will not disappoint.
