All Music Guide
Debut album from rising young Irish singer/songwriter probably best known to British audiences for her vocal performances on records by her fellow countryman Damien Rice. Hannigan's quirky, literate, acoustic folk-pop, rich with the backing of strings, brass, and glockenspiel, is more upbeat than Rice's, and is comparable to the work of Kathryn Williams and Juliet Turner. This self-produced debut has garnered several award nominations and substantial praise both in her homeland and in the U.S.

    Great Solo CD

After working for years with folk singer Damien Rice, this ablum is a great beginning to Lisa Hannigan's career as a solo artist! Sea Sew accents her eclectic style and beautiful vocal capabilities. Think a mix between Bjork, Tori Amos, and Ani DiFranco - she has Bjork's soft impishness, Tori's originality, and Ani's ability to channel different genres from song to song. Yet she has a unique sound and gentle quality that make Sea Sew an album you can put on repeat, and spend all afternoon with. Of the flood of new albums to come out lately, this is one that will make you stop and take notice. Add it to your collection!!
