Overview

Lucy B. Parker has finally settled into her new life in New York City, living with her new frister (friend + sister), superstar Laurel Moses. She's got a new BFF in Beatrice, and she's spending her summer vacation off in L.A. visiting Laurel on the set of her new movie and meeting teen heartthrobs left and right. Life is good, until Lucy develops a crush-and unlike previous crushes, this one is not on a character in a book or a movie, but on a real living breathing boy, Beatrice's brother Blair. Unfortunately for Lucy, nothing ever seems to go as she plans. Because although Lucy dreamed that Blair would be her first kiss, it seems like someone else might beat him to it!

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 5–7—Eileen Stevens perfectly captures the voice of 12-year-old Lucy B. Parker in these two spot-on stories by Robin Palmer about a young girl on the edge of puberty. In Girl vs. Superstar (2010), Lucy is not having the best introduction to sixth grade. Her two long-time best friends have dumped her, her period just won't arrive, and teen superstar, Laurel Moses, humiliated her in front of practically the whole town. Life couldn't get worse—until Lucy's mom informs her that she is dating Laurel's father. When the relationship becomes serious and Lucy's mom asks for her approval to marry Allen and move to New York, Lucy is stunned. Sealed with a Kiss (2010, both Putnam) finds Lucy dealing with a new life in New York, trying to figure out whether or not she has a crush on a guy, and taking an adventure-filled vacation to Los Angeles with her soon-to-be stepsister. In both stories, Lucy's humor and strength see her through her challenges. Stevens's voicing of Lucy is convincing, and she gives all the supporting characters unique voices. With perfect pacing, she captures both the fun of the story and Lucy's real anxiety when things go frequently wrong. Preteens will find much to relate to here and will hope for additional titles in the future.—Deanna Romriell, Salt Lake City Public Library, UT

Meet the Author

Robin Palmer grew up in Massachusetts and New Jersey, and graduated from Boston University before she hit the road for Hollywood. Starting as an assistant in the television literary department of the William Morris Agency, she quickly moved up the ranks and spent the next decade as a literary agent, producer, and television network executive at Lifetime Television, where she developed over one hundred scripts and oversaw the production of over thirty of the cable network's original movies. In 2001, she remembered that she had originally intended to spend her life either as a writer or a toll booth collector (so she could indulge her penchant for spending her days alone reading), but as there are no toll roads in southern California, she decided to give the writing thing a try. Since then, she's written everything from screenplays to essays to a novel to a preschool guide. Although she's constantly threatening to move, she currently resides in New York City.

This was my least favorite in the series. It centers around crushes too much. Sadly you have to get through it to fully understand the later, much better books in the series.

I adored this book! The plot is terrific and unique, but at the same time relateable for the most part. This is deffinately the best book in the world let alone the series for its combination of growing up, crushes, family issues, comedy and so much more!!!!!!! Perfect for anyone from the ages of 11-14. ( BTW I added the book Just One Wish since it is a similar plot of meeting a celebrity and falling in love with them. Just make sure you have at least a dozen boxes of tissues- you'll need them!)

Without a doubt this is the best book ever and will be as long as...forever!! I love how this book is one that I can relate to and it's filled with great advice for tweens. This is my second time reading this book because it's an absolute magical experience reading them; I wish I could have a life like Lucy's, its enchanting. Lucy gets the opportunity to go to L.A. with her celebrity frister, friend and sister. While her frister is on superstar mode, she does some expolring and finds out that many people find her amazing. Then, at a party they were invited to by one of the most famous teenage celebrities, Austin Mackenzie, and his best friend, Connor Forrester. Lucy finds that she get a tingling feeling around Connor but she doesn't think that someone so normal could like someone so... famous like Connor. Connor finds her amazing too. And the rest is what the title says... Sealed with a Kiss!!
