Overview

Since their creation in 1983, the US Navy SEALs have been involved in unconventional warfare around the globe, undertaking crucial and clandestine missions. These have included traditional underwater missions such as in Panama in 1989, the taking down of ships and also gas and oil platforms, and more recently, sniping and other missions in land-locked countries like Afghanistan. They have adapted their training, their tactics and their weapons to enable them to remain the best in whatever task they are set. This book covers the organization of the SEALs, their famously demanding recruitment, their equipment, and their missions. The authors have interviewed many past and serving SEALs, who tell their stories in their own words.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

“SEALs provides eye-opening insight into the world of Navy SEALs. Bahmanyar and Osman reveal this dangerous and mysterious world using the words of the men themselves, and unique and exciting photos bring the story to life.” —SirReadaLot.org (December 2008)

“Mir Bahmanyar has done it again, but this time with former Navy SEAL, Chris Osman. Cowritten by the author of Shadow Warriors: A History of the US Army Rangers, SEALs provides a comprehensive look into the Navy's elite special operations force... We highly recommend SEALs to anyone interested in learning more about the Navy's elite. The book is endorsed by a number of well known special operators...” —Shadowspear.com (January 2009)

“In their 25 years of existence the U.S. Navy SEALs have become famous for unconventional tactics, daring missions, and crucial battles around the world -- and have developed world-famous training techniques. This celebrates their strategies, chronicles their missions, and uses first-hand accounts of Seals experiences along with over 200 previously unpublished photos. Any military or naval library must have this celebration.” —California Bookwatch (January 2009)

“For those readers looking to become SEALs I suggest you read this book cover to cover and then read it again…. For those readers just wanting to gain knowledge and an understanding about the SEALs and the SEAL community there is no other book you need to read.” —Marcus Lutrell, author of Love Survivor
