    Not bad, not great

The Séance is a murder mystery that begins with a girl being murdered after sneaking out of a séance. Many will find this novel corny, seeing that it was published in 1980 and the content is much less explicit than it would be if it was written during the 21st century. I don't think this takes away from the book, however, because there is still a decent plot line with minor conflicts on the side, such as Lauren, the main character, having to decide whether or not she will go to college the following year. The only thing is that the murderer's reasoning for what they did seemed a bit unrealistic. This story isn't great, just average.

Judah Deason- Interesting but not a success

The book, the seance, is about a girl named Lauren who goes to school in Texas and lives with her aunt Melvamay with whom also has another girl living with her named Sarah, who's kind of mysterious, and also lauren and Sarah aren't really friends because she sneaks out alot and guys drop her off late at night and they never talk about it, and it kind of annoys Lauren. The two girls are invited to a seance that is hosted by a girl, named roberta, who supposedly can speak to the dead and has physicic powers. So all the girls get there to have a seance, they turn off the lights and into it someone screams really loud so they turn the lights back on and find out that Sarah is missing, the police find her body laying in a swamp dead. So in attempts to figure out who did it they have another little seance but the same thing happens again, someone goes missing and they later find her dead too. But I won't spoil the ending cause that's the best part

My opinion of this book is not really a good one. A lot of the dialogue is really antiquated, not that that's a big deal I just don't like antiquated teenage dialogue. It also seemed not to be written that well, it was attention grabbing at points but overall it's not really that great. I may recommend this to people that like the whodunit mystery novels but there are probably more enjoyable ones out there. I'm not saying this book was terrible, I just didn't like it. The part where you found out who the killer was was a good part but it's like that for most whodunit mystery novels so it wasn't that much of a feat. I did like, however, the whole plot and everything cause it sounds really interesting and it would have been a book I highly favored if it was just written better. All in all I did enjoy this book, but not enough to say I liked it cause there were few parts I enjoyed in comparison to just fill in parts I had to read. So overall it's ok but not the best

    AWESOME SHOCKER

The Author Joan Lowery Nixon is really great with dramatic events. In the book ¿The Séance¿ the girls want a little fun and call for a Séance when suddenly things go wrong. A girl goes missing, her name was Sara Martin. All the girls panic and ask questions that can¿t be answered. Then a few more weeks later the host of the Séance goes missing too, her name was Roberta. I like this book a lot because it¿s so unexpected. The ending was such a great shocker. I just wished the author added a little more to the ending.

    two thumbs up

It all happened on a dark night in a small room. It was a seance held by Roberta. All of a sudden, Sara shrieked and snuffed out the only light in the room. What is going on? Joan Lowery Nixon's book, The Seance is the winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Mystery Writers of America Award. Nixon is the only four time Edgar Award Winner. She was the president of the Mystery Writers of America. The main character Lauren is a very quiet, calm, and ordinary teenager. She lives with her aunt and Sara, her aunt's charge. Lauren is very excited to go to the seance but it didn't go as smoothly as she expected. In a matter of seconds, one of the girls, Sara disappeared. Now, the community is asking Lauren questions regarding what happened to Sara but Lauren doesnt even know what is giong on. Then a couple of weeks later, there is a remake of the seance so the sheriff can try to find out what happened to Sara. But then something awful happens. This time, Roberta disappears. What happened to Roberta? The Seance is an exciting and entertaining book. As you keep on reading, you start to find out more about what is going on and you start to solve the mystery. This book's ending is kind of obvious because you know that the mystery is going to be solved. The Seance is definitely a two thumbs up book. If you start reading the book, you may not be able to put it down. If you love mysteries or have read Joan Lowery Nixon books in the past, this book is just for you.

    Good, but not the best.

This book was a good read, but I found it slightly predictable, except for the ending. The ending was very unexpected. I would still recommend it to others who would like to read a good book that includes a good mystery and some plot twists.
