Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck
The “Dogs On The Job” series is designed to provide younger readers a glimpse of the different social contributions canines can make. In this instance the focus is on Search and Rescue (SAR) dogs. As Karwoski notes in this fact-filled little book, SAR dogs perform heroic deeds aimed at saving lives and/or recovering victims or their remains. SAR dogs come from many breeds or combinations of breeds and often are rescued dogs themselves. SAR dogs require extensive training and personality traits inclusive of fearlessness, an ability to focus, and intense desire to accomplish the task at hand. In many instances SAR dogs face very real dangers when they set out to accomplish a mission. In telling the story of SAR dogs Karwoski combines both general information with anecdotes regarding the efforts of real life SAR dogs and their handlers. In this way readers are given some insights into the fascinating and important work that SAR dogs fulfill. Reviewer: Greg M. Romaneck; Ages 7 to 10.
