Fabulous book!

Vile Things is an awesome new book. My two sons, ages 6 and 10, both absolutely love it! The drawings are really cool and keep their attention. Marilyn Scott-Waters is the illustrator and she did a fantastic job. There are a ton of neat facts and bizarre creatures - even I was taken by how much was packed into the book. If your kids really like Ripley's Believe It or Not, they will love this! It is an adventure vacation for any kid (or parent).

Great book. I highly recommend it.

Ev

    I Also Recommend:

Lush and informative, an adventure for the eyes

The Search for Vile Things is a beautifully illustrated book, full of the best kind of information for fans of the gross in nature. I had no idea there were so many strange and interesting plants and animals in Indonesia. The little boy Maldred's drawings are roughly charming throughout, and provide an excellent counterpoint to the beautifully accurate and delicate renderings provided on every page. This is an excellent book for teaching children about life science and observation, without making it seem like teaching. This is a fantastic gift book for any young inquisitive mind.

    Glad I found Vile Things

The art work truly makes this story come alive. There are wonderfully rendered pictures of the objects described as well as artwork by the characters themselves. This gives the story depth and makes the characters more complete.I look forward to more of these stories.

    Great Art Great Information

My ten year old daughter started to talk about the book, Vile Things, while we were driving in the car together. She reflected on certain facts in the book that she found to be interesting. I was captivated. She also said, "The pictures were the best!"

    Great fun, great gift!

I loved this book. Hammerslough's witty, playful approach to learning invites kids to discover how much fun it is to explore the world around them. Her prose is both accessible to kids and engaging for the grown ups who love them. Original concept, entertainingly executed. This is a great holiday gift. I'm planning on giving several of them!
