Overview

From New York Times bestselling author Kelly Elliott comes the gut-wrenching story of a love that transcends all odds—and transforms the deepest pain into the brightest hope.

Firefighter and first responder Preston Ward thought he had grown immune to the job’s emotional burns. But when he goes out on a particularly tragic call, he realizes that some scenes are too devastating to forget. And yet, if it weren’t for that terrible night, he never would have met the woman who makes him want to risk his heart.

More than once, Harmony Banks has watched her perfectly ordered world torn apart by fate. Now she’s finding out that what she lost wasn’t as perfect as she thought—and it’s tearing her apart. The only thing that keeps her going is the kindness of a stranger: the firefighter who saved her life the night everything changed.

Preston isn’t like the men who have come before. For one thing, he’s far more genuine. And the love Harmony feels growing between them is almost too intense for her wounded soul. But if she and Preston can push past heartbreak, they’ll find that something incredible awaits in each other’s arms.

When you are in the midst of terrible loss and pain, there are just some people who bring comfort. Sometimes those are people who entered our lives at just the right moment. Call it fate, destiny, whatever. Kelly Elliott writes it as a story of love.

I was given a gifted copy by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Harmony is a young girl who lost everything she got in a tragic accident, her husband and her baby son. Preston is one of the firefighters on duty who try to save the life of Harmony’s baby but unfortunately, it was too late. He can’t forget Harmony’s eyes pleading him to save her baby. Feeling devastated, he starts to visit her when she is in hospital and supporting her and her brother Jake. From all the devastation created by the accident, friendship emerges. After a while that friendship changes into love. I liked the book but there were several things that were not believable at all. The most important was that it is totally impossible to fall in love so quickly after losing one’s baby. The shock after having the accident, the excruciating pain of losing your loved ones, especially if it is a child, would be impossible to forget and most of the people suffering something like that need a lot of therapy to be able to move on. Another thing I didn’t like about the book is the swearing. I can understand the swearing in some situations or some stories, for example, MC riders, but to swear in the middle of making love? No way! And less when there wasn’t almost anything in the rest of the book. It was absolutely out of context. However, the author was good showing us the feelings of the characters and I loved Preston’s family. They are funny, friendly and amazing. All in all, I liked most of the book.

I'm a reader/reviewer that is used to Amish/Christian type romance stories so this was a little over the top for me. Someone convinced me that I would enjoy the book so I requested to read it. It was overall a nice story. It could have been told without the shocking language and sex scenes. I like clean romances and I do have a great imagination, so I can fill in the blanks where the sex is concerned. Harmony, and she got that name because her mother enjoyed symphonies, was a young innocent girl that was suddenly thrust into harsh realities of life. Her husband and young son were both killed in a car crash that Harmony survived. Grief, guilt, depression and sadness enveloped her. The firefighter on the scene, Preston, tried to save them both but failed. Guilt drove him to visit Harmony in the hospital. From there not only did Preston form a friendship with Harmony's brother, but he also developed a friendship with Harmony. They soon started having feelings for each other which seemed very unrealistic to me. Everything started falling in place for the two of them, or so it seemed. And with emotions and fear smothering Harmony, she runs away from everybody. In the end, without giving anything away I hope, all was tied up in a neat little box. If I'd known at the beginning about the language and the over abundance of sex I would have declined reading it but when I start a book I always finish it. If that's your "cup of tea", you'll love this book. I received an uncorrected copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley.

This book kept me turning the pages from the very first page. Harmony has lost everything and Preston, has come to her rescue. This is the journey of Harmony rediscovering her life after a devastating accident. Preston is a fireman, that saved Harmony. The sexual chemistry between the two is very hot. Can Harmony find love once again and open her heart. This book is a wonderful journey on opening your heart again and finding love and trust again. It is a roller coaster ride that you do not want to miss.

The story starts with a deep loss and sorrow, to a love so deep. An emotional yet rewarding journey that brought Harmony and Preston together. Loved all the charters and their parts in the story. A very emotional , but sweet read. Would definitely recommend this book.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about this book is how damn sweet it is. The story starts out with tragedy that is very emotional. However the story soon turns into a more positive flow. The author takes us on a journey of in-depth love that fills your heart and truly is a very sweet story. You find yourself rooting on the characters and hoping for the best. However, as in all romance stories, there has to be some kind of angst and this one included it in such a manner that I knew it is geared to the YA genre. I'm not going to give up what it happens but it's a frustration to me as a reader to wonder if someone would actually do that and yet end up with a HEA. For me, I would have done away with that whole part of the story and it would've been the perfect read. Even with that small personal annoyance, I did enjoy the story even as sweet as it was. The author did a great job giving us the depth of emotion and honor to each other which is important in any type of relationship. Something that's often missed in many romance books today. copy rec'd for review purposes

Preston and Harmony meet on a night when Harmony's life is tragically changed forever. Harmony does not understand why she finds comfort in Preston's green eyes, she only knows that she does. Preston knows he is drawn to Harmony and cannot explain why he wants to be there for her at her darkest time. Preston falls into an easy friendship with Harmony's brother, Jake, and tries to be there for both of them. Harmony tries to recover and move on after her devastating loss and does seek friendship from Preston. Preston knows he needs to take things slow with Harmony and does his best to be what she needs. Harmony finds herself having feelings for Preston but also feels guilt for moving on. Preston knows he needs to be strong and offer all of his love and support, even if she only needs friendship from him. When both of them finally share their feelings, it was sweet to see them acknowledge how they need each other. When a bad day sends Harmony spinning out again, Preston needs to dig deep and fight for her. It was nicely done and had did a great job of showing how life goes on and loving again is possible, even if you felt at one point your life was over. Life is messy at times and this book did a great job of showing that the right person by your side can make all the difference in how you handle the hard times.

This story is a journey through loss, acceptance and opening up to love. Harmony suffers a great loss and struggles with living. Preston feels guilt but cannot ignore the pull of Harmony. Together they learned about openness, honesty, and moving on. This book brought me laughs, tears, and joy, and I highly recommend it. I received a copy of this story through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley for a copy of this book! Preston is a first responder and thought he'd grown an immunity to the tragedy he sees in his job most every day. However, one night he goes on a call that shakes his core. Harmony and her family were in an accident and she's the only survivor. What happens when feeling develop for the person you helped in your job? Harmony is no stranger to tragedy and doesn't she deserve someone like Preston? What happens when there are secrets in their past? This was such an emotional story that kept me on a roller coaster as far as my emotions went! It was such a sweet story that I enjoyed immensely!

What a fantastic read! The story line takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride. It is full of tragedy, sorrow, hope, doubt and love. Harmony longs to heal and love again but her fears hold her back. Preston has his work cut out for him but love conquers all. Loved this book.

arc from Net Galley in exchange for an honest opinion. Who stole Kelly Elliott and where have they taken her? She could not have possibly written this book. This book was/is, it just didn't work. The plot wasn't there, the MC's where immature and lacking and it simply dragged with unnecessary dialogue that was pointless. This was not Kelly's finest work. This book is YA at best and more teenage, yet even given that, it wouldn't be a story I could point to and say read this you'll really like it. I do like the author. That's what was so confounding.

Kelly literally ripped my heart out and stomped on it all with in the first few pages. Literally my mouth open gaping like a fish. Applause, applause for another fabulous story filled with heat and love along with a terrific story line of how to love again. Life never gives us more than we can handle, even though at the time we are broken and destroyed..there is always a master plan. Harmony lives through the hardest thing a person can ever face. Preston is just the rock she needs. Slowly piecing together her broken heart (and yours) Preston will steal you and wrap in his big firefighter arms. You will swoon in the best way. Great characters, great writing. A very emotionally moving read. I love Harmony when she is fighting what she feels, “This is not good. So not good. Moaning internally, I closed my eyes. Jesus, this is so good. So very good. No. No, this is not good. Friends. We are just friends.” There is love, loss, romance, flirty fun and everything I have come to love from Kelly Elliott! What a beautiful story about life after a horrific loss. Harmony looses her husband and her son in an auto accident. She is devastated and has no support system, other than her brother, to help her while she grieves. Harmony tries to throw herself into school and work, but that is hard to do when she can't get any sleep because of the horrible nightmares. Preston is the fireman who worked on Harmony’s son. He is having a hard time dealing with the loss of little TJ. He checks in on Harmony often during her convalescence. He is warned by his chief to “not get emotionally involved.” Preston helps give Harmony the will to want to live again, but can she open heart to him? Can she let herself love again? Kelly Elliot has written a beautiful story. If you like contemporary romance with a little heat, you’ll like this book.

1 - "You just made this so much easier." Star. DNF @ 22% Quick sum up, this book in the 22% I read pretty much had every trope I despise in my love stories – (spoiler) That is just the cliff notes, but what I was expecting to get from the blurb (recovery from grief, slow-burn romance, and a bit of an emotional rollercoaster) basically morphed into erroneous drama overload pretty much from the end of the prologue. "Everything happens for a reason." That may be so, but in twenty years Harmony has experienced more than a normal family would go through in a lifetime (and this is just in the first 20% of the book) let alone one person. I can live with drama and angst if its relevant and provokes a reaction, but the main points of the story were lost because of the above spoilers as well as a total lack of emotional development between the H/h, they have a connection apparently according to Preston, which in one aspect is true (view spoiler) but that is as far as it went for me. This is my first book by this author, an author I have seen a massive amount over my GR and Facebook feeds over the last couple of years. I knew her stories were emotionally charged and high on angst levels, so I had pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, Searching for Harmony to be frank, left me a little cold in the blasé nature of its telling. ARC generously provided, I am sorry I cannot offer a more positive review.

5 Stars Kelly Elliott is definitely one of my go to authors, I have loved her work since the first moment I picked up Wanted. Her stories are always full of so much emotion and at times anguish you can’t help but be drawn straight into the story. This book did not start out the way I expected it to, it totally threw me and I couldn’t get my bearings after reading it. Don’t get me wrong it was amazing but not what I thought would happen. Harmony has just lived through one of the most traumatic experiences of her life, she suffers a tremendous loss and struggles to get her life back on track. Her strength through this book was amazing, she picked herself up even when she didn’t want to and struggled with the guilt of moving on. Preston was witness to some of Harmony’s heartache, he struggles with the guilt he feels for not being able to do more and feels like he needs to check on her. He starts up a friendship with both Harmony and her brother Jake. Preston was such an amazing character, he was so loveable and patient with Harmony and understood her struggles. I honestly think he was one of the most amazing men I have read about. These characters burrowed their way into my heart and I don’t think they will be leaving any time soon. They were such great characters individually but together they were amazing. This book had me feeling a gauntlet of different emotions, I cried so hard at times during it I gave myself a headache. This is one of my favourite Kelly Elliott books ever.

Before they can begin their adult lives, post high school, Harmony and Trey discover they are having a baby. Trey's parents aren't ecstatic with the news, but accept it. Harmony's parents react harshly, causing a break with their daughter. Her brother, Jake sticks by her. Trey and Harmony marry and raise their son. Tragedy strikes and Harmony finds herself alone, grieving and recuperating. She's lost and empty. She's visited by her brother and Preston, a firefighter. She and Preston begin to develop feelings for one another. But is it too much, too soon? Secrets emerge, causing Harmony to flee... Growth and life lessons are handled beautifully in this romance. Some of the decisions made are questionable,, yet the story is enjoyable. 3 1/2 stars. Book free for honest review.

This one was just OK for me. I have to start this review by saying that I will read almost any kind of romance – from sweet to smut (and I do love a good smutty book). I’m starting with that because there was something about the sex scenes and some of the language in this book that bothered me. I’m trying to find a way to describe how I feel about it and the best thing that I can come up with is the language during the sex scenes seemed forced. For me it just didn’t fit with the tone of the rest of the book which leaned towards the sweet side. I’ve run across this before and it seems like some authors try to sex up or spice up their stories by almost randomly adding “dirty” words during the sex scenes. Hot and dirty sex scenes are wonderful if they fit with the tone of the rest of the book and for me it didn’t work with this one. At times I got distracted by the language and got pulled out of the story. Other than what I mention above I liked the story and felt that the writing was very good. The story is horribly sad in places (read the book blurb) yet optimistic in others. Preston and Harmony have a real connection and I felt that connection strongly except during the sex scenes. These two characters go through a lot before they get to their HEA but they do get there and the epilogue was a much appreciated part of the book. I really do enjoy books with a good epilogue! I didn’t hate this book but I didn’t love it. It’s the first in a new series called Boston Love and I would be willing to read another story in this series to see if there’s any improvement in the writing. ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my review. Review will be posted to Xtreme-Delusions dot com on or after release date.

Harmony was devastated when she discovered that she was the only survivor of a car crash. Her husband and baby son were both gone. Jake, her brother, the only family that she had left, cried by her bedside in the hospital. Harmony’s parents weren’t coming to support her; they had disowned her when she had refused to get an abortion. And, even though, she knew that her brother hurt for her, she felt alone in her pain. Harmony would find, though, that in her darkest hour, slivers of hope would seep through the cracks of her heart. Consumed with guilt and haunted by his failure, firefighter, Preston Ward set out to befriend Harmony, the woman of his nightmares. He only meant to ease her pain, but in doing so, ended up turning both of their lives upside down. Searching For Harmony is a touching story about love, loss, and the courage that it takes for a person who has been hurt in the past, to open their heart and risk being vulnerable again. I found this book, easy to read, enjoyable, and emotionally charged. I received this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review

Plenty of potential, but needed polishing. 3.7/5.0 ⭐ ⭐ Provided by NetGalley in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐ Judging a Book by it's Cover: Cover has a small-town, sweet contemporary look to it. A couple sitting in front of a sunset with noses and foreheads touching. Synopsis sounds full of emotions. Looking Deeper: Alternating first-person POVs, clearly defined and easy to follow. Preston is one of the first responders to arrive at a traffic accident with fatalities, but it's the female patient being cared for by a fellow firefighter that haunts him; the pleading looks and screams for her son that devastate him. Harmony is a young mom in a lack of loving marriage to TJ's daddy. High School love waned as they grew up and just when they planned on graduating and moving on, off in their separate ways, they learn of her pregnancy. Trying to do right, they marry and are raising the child, TJ, together although both feel trapped. I cannot begin to think I know how I would feel or react if my husband and/or child(ren) died suddenly, so I cannot criticize the portrayal of Harmony too much, but can say I am not a fan of the whiny, simpering, clingy female types, therefore was not a big fan of the heroine here. Preston, I think, has a good heart... but the fact that he hung on to his girlfriend because she's a good f**k is contrary to the rest of his personality. Guilt, concern and the genuine big heart leads him to befriend Harmony's brother. Which, in turn, keeps him close to Harmony. But the way he continues to drop everything to help Harmony just infuriates me. He needs a stronger backbone lest his kindness be taken advantage of. The chemistry is slow and sweet. The secondary characters range from very likeable to not-at-all likeable. Cast interaction is rather good, dialogue: not bad. The plot drags a bit and I found it a little difficult to read through. The sex scenes were (sorry), in turn, comical and irritating. They felt like I was reading the script for a low budget porno with it's stiff play-by-play and over-zealous running dialogue... the only thing missing was the cheesy background music (although there was some "fitting, appropriate" music playing the first time). I just was not buying into the whole love and intimacy thing and the fact that Harmony would continually think "Trey never this, Trey never that" while in bed with Preston made me seriously want to quit reading the book altogether. Regardless, read on I did. The internal conflicts were resolved by the end with a solid and satisfying conclusion. There were several points of predictability throughout the book and no real surprises. Overall, it's an okay book, but (in my opinion) needs maturing and polishing, especially in the more intimate scenes. In it's current state, It would be difficult for me to recommend it. Sorry. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rating: [R] ~ Score: 3.7 ~ Stars: 4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 1/2 out of 5 stars I seem to be on a roll right now with sad books. Books that are making me rethink my emotions and books that are stealing my heart! But this one stole the show this weekend. I can’t let them go. This story pulled at my heartstrings and left me feeling whole. Preston is a firefighter who has been around firefighting and the likes his entire life since his dad (and even a brother) is a firefighter. At the beginning of this story, he gets called to the scene of a horrible car accident and he isn’t able to save everyone on the scene. This gets him thinking about his calling and whether he really wants to continue as a firefighter...it also introduces him to Harmony. Harmony married Trey because they discovered she was pregnant just days after breaking up and before graduating from high school. They had a beautiful baby boy together, but about 2 years later Harmony loses both her husband and her baby in the above mentioned car wreck. I enjoyed watching Preston fight his feelings for Harmony -- just as she was doing with him. I enjoyed the way that their romance had a slow build and yet they both were so happy being friends and helping each other heal. There were a few things that I didn’t enjoy (hence the 1/2 star drop in rating), but overall I enjoyed this novel by Ms Elliott. It is my frist , but is not likely to be my last. ** I received an ARC thru NetGalley in exchange for an honest review **

I really liked this one. There are one or two things I would have liked to see handled differently but overall it was a very enjoyable read. The story starts out very dramatically and had me glued to the pages to see what happened. To me, that's that sign of a great read. I could feel the emotional turmoil that both Preston and Harmony were going through and their connection seemed real and true. I don't want to say to much and spoil the story but this is definitely a book I would recommend.

I’m just going to keep this review short and sweet. I am usually a huge Kelly Elliot fan. She is one of those authors that is an auto-one click for me. So, when I heard about Searching for Harmony, I didn’t even think twice about it. Searching for Harmony is a quick and easy read. It starts off with one heartbreaking beginning. This is a story about loss and finding the strength to move on. It is a sweet second chance romance. So, overall, I thought this was an ok read. The story-line was interesting and I do love second chance romances. However, I did have some issues with the story. Usually I am a big fan of fast paced stories, but this one was way too fast paced. Preston and Harmony’s relationship started off as just friends, but I feel as though the romantic part of it just progressed too quickly. For the type of loss that she experienced, I would have liked to have seen more of a slow burn in their relationship. There were a few other things that I did not like and that didn’t really work for me, but I can’t say because they would be really spoilery to the story. Even though I had some issues with this story, I am happy that I stuck with it. I do think that this story is written well and last 40% or so did turn things around for me. The romance that Preston and Harmony had was sweet and I loved that Preston was able to bring Harmony back to life. In the end, I think that this is just one of those books that will be a hit for some, and others not so much.
