    A must have....

If you are an El DeBarge fan, you will not be disappointed. He's still got IT!!! Real music has returned.

    Highly Recommended

I saw this CD totally by accident on the shelf. Being one that will give anyone from my past a chance, I purchased it. From the 1st song, I have not regretted the purchase. I had not heard anything from El DeBarge since his "In The Storm." If you have that CD in your collection you know that it was somewhat paying homage to the late "Marvin Gaye" as El did several of the things that Marvin did on the "What's Going On" album of the 1970s.His ability to overdub, repeat backgrounding, etc. And what might be consider one of the best albums ever recorded in history. Also not knowing that he had not done anything in almost 13 years, and all the personal problems he has gone through, it is a pleasure to introduce to the youth of this age, "Mr. El DeBarge." This CD is almost as if he had never been away. And he is staying true to his mantra, the next "Marvin Gaye." I say this because if ever there was anyone who has figured the "essence" of what made "Marvin" so popular, it's "El." He knows how to catch you from the first track to the very last, and you never know what he will do next. So you find yourself having to sit and listen to the entire CD. Yes, some of the songs are not the best in the world, but if he has had 13 years to sit and wait for this, then rest assured that "he is back." He grabs you with the 1st track, "Lay With You" where his ability to turn a dance song into just that, a dance song at it's best. And with people like "Faith Evans", who I personally wish would record another CD, to "50 Cents", "Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam", and so many others helping out. You cannot go wrong with this CD. Along with "Lay With You," there is "How Can You Love Me" that if you're over the age of 50 will make you think that "Marvin" is alive and doing well in this man's soul, and his style. You find yourself hitting the repeat button so much on the second song, you may forget that there are even more songs on the CD. Sticking in the same vein are the soulful yet slower paced songs are "Sexy Lady, Sad Song and The Other Side." It's as if he is trying to take you on a Roller Caster ride. You kick out of the station and then when it's over, it gets slower. The one song that will surly make you sad is the very last one, "Second Chance", where his voice so reminds you of "Micheal Jackson" you will almost want to cry just to hear it. Not everything on this CD is great or even real good. "Format" makes you wish he had asked "Busta Rhyme" or some other rapper but "50 Cents" to help with the rap. Overall, this is a very good and Highly Recommended CD, and if you have children, let them hear this and then if you have a "Marvin's" "What's Goin' On" album. I will assure you they will ask you why did the man start singing in a falsetto. I say again, as long as "El DeBarge" is around, the legacy of what "Marvin" stared with "What's Goin' On", will never be dead. Pay very close attention to the track titled "Close To You." You'll forget all about "R Kellys" CD, for sure.
