Overview

Even as a child, Rachel had her whole life mapped out – study teaching, marry the perfect guy, have some kids and be a stay at home mum. With two different guys after her attention, Rachel must make a choice – will she choose rebellious single dad Nate or sensible youth leader Steven?
Meanwhile, Hannah is on top of the world, engaged to be married to the love of her life, until a chance encounter with someone from her past threatens to take away her happiness. Will her relationship survive when the secret she has been keeping for so many years is uncovered?
As these best friends lean on God and each other through different trials, they both experience God’s forgiveness and his provision of ‘second chances’.

Meet the Author

I am a new christian romance author based in Sydney, Australia. After reading many christian romance books over the last 10 years I wrote my first novel, Second Chances, in 2011. Writing was never something I planned on doing, but once I started, I realised it was something I love to do! I live with my husband, two pre-school aged daughters.

This was a wonderful story that follows two female college-aged friends as they begin romantic relationships and look to God for guidance and the wisdom to make their relationships strong. This is a sweet little read for girls and women, and give a good model for Christian dating and marriage. Book has about 190 pages for a swift and satisfying read.

I love Christian romances, but I felt this book could have been more interesting. However, it was a quick read.

I liked the idea of the story, I just would have liked to have more. I feel like a lot of detail was missing.

Reading this book really made me think abt my spiritual life now. I made many mistakes in my life, some of them more than once, and over amd over again God forgives me. His arms are open wide for his children. I am so blessed to be a Christian. To know that my life rests in eternal heaven. I am not just saying this to come oout as "holy" or whtevr. Cause im not. Im far from being a perfect Christiian. Most of my life isnt even focused on God sometimes. But what i am trying to say is tht God always gives you second chances. Or third. Or fourth or how long it takes you to become his child. Once the Holy spirit dwells in you, its never going away. No matter how badly you messed up or sinned, Gods grip on you is nevr letting go. Right now, my spiritual faith is falling. I need Gods help and guidance. But wheneevr i seem to come back to jesus, all of my passion drains away the next day. I am constantly battling my struggles throughout my life, letting my secular friends lead me astray from my God on high. My churh doesnt even have a youth or a senior pastor. Like i said, my faith is decreasing. But i cant blame anything except myself. Its my choice. And i choose God and Jesus and The Holy Spirit to lead myy life in the godly way im supposed to. Our reason on earth and living in general is simple: to please God and do his will on earth as it is in heavan. We need God to change our lives. After you die, theres only two places that you can go. Heavan or hell. Dont pospone your faith. believe and accept Christ as your persinal saviour and you will be saved. Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from eternal hell. Dont take his gift for granted. God loved us so much that he gave his SON. Most parens wiuld rather die themselves than give their sons or daughters. But God sent Jesus because he loved us. We are nothing compared to God. Yet he humbled himself to die for our sins tat we constantly commit. Im not afraid of death anymire. Becuz i know where i will go. I kniw where i stand. I stand for God. And i pray that you readers do the same. I love you my brothers and sisters ins christ. Remember. You are never too young or old to accept Jesuss gift to us. I am thirteen and accepted him when i was eleven. My dad when he was thirty. May God bless you and keep you. May he shine his face upon you and give you peace.

As the title of this review says, cute story and also a quick read. I started this on a Thursday and finished by Friday evening. Also, great reminders for anyone who struggles with following their own plan for their lives rather than trusting in God and His timing when it comes to finding "the one". Story did show about His mercy and giving second chances to get it right. While there was one character who was a "nonbeliever" and was given a second chance in life, it would have been nice to see a character who was a struggling Christian who succumbs to many of life's temptations and struggles to stay on the right track. The characters in this book were on such the right path that it doesn't seem realistic, especially considering they are in their early 20's.

I took a chance on reading a Christian-based inspiration romance book. I generally don't like to mix the themes because I find them to be inconsistent at best. Second Chances is Alison Stanley's first attempt in this genre, and the first book of hers that I read. Although, I must note that I was ready to print my review, the author herself actually contacted me and asked if I would read her second book and publish a review for that one first. I agreed, so please see my review below of her second book. As for Second Chances, I must admit that my original thought about not reading mixed themes was on track. While Ms. Stanley's first attempt at a novel was not that bad, it wasn't the best. My biggest obstacle was language. As an American, I have the privilege of living in the melting pot of nationalities. However, an author's vernacular while seemingly charming when delivered in verbal form, it also has the ability to make or break a story when it comes to the written word. In terms of the actual story, simply put, it is about two friends and their desire to find suitable husbands. One of them, Hannah, is already engaged but happens to meet someone from her past that brings up some not so pleasant memories that could potentially destroy the relationship she is in. The other, Rachael, who has carefully planned her life, realizes that she has the opportunity to take a chance and step out of her normal routine and pursue a relationship that may not be suitable for her. Coincidentally, there is also another guy who is interested in her. Hmmm, now she has the big dilemma. Actually, they both have problems that need to be addressed. On one hand, Rachael's story was somewhat predictable, and unfortunately, due to the duo stories going on here, it didn't have the opportunity to expand on some of the necessary detail to make it more complete. Hannah's story, on the other hand, offered a surprising twist to what would have otherwise been a bland and boring account of another perfect relationship. I believe that by having two stories told in one novel shortchanged both as there wasn't enough time to expand on the stories beneath the stories. Separating the two would have allowed for each of the girl's journey to be more fulfilling for the reader and answered some of those questions that was left up to our imaginations. As a Christian-based story, this book is probably not suitable for pre-teens or young teens. I would recommend that parents read the book first to assess whether they want their child to read it or not.
