Overview

By New York Times Bestselling Author H.M. Ward and Stacey Mosteller
Sex. Betrayal. Forbidden Love. Lawn Boy.

I'm not a catch, I'm not even certain I'm what they'd call 'mentally stable,' not anymore. Too much has happened too fast and it ripped my soul in half. I'm alone, with a plastic stick in my hand that says the one word we'd been so eager to see.

Pregnant.

Lucky in love once is a miracle, but I lost him, and this baby is all I have left. My life turned to ash in a blink and there's nothing I can do about it.

Years pass and I'm still here, but it doesn't feel like it, not until the lawn guy, Daniel Clement, checks me out. Me. A yoga-panting, pony tailing, frumpy-butt, frizzy mommy who's covered in whatever the baby tossed on me at lunch.

Daniel's dark eyes linger too long, as if he likes what he sees. I'm shocked and flattered, but he's too young. The age gap between us is over a decade, but that doesn't stop him. If I sleep with him everyone will think I've lost my mind. Maybe I have, because everyday that I see Daniel's sexy, toned body glistening in the sunlight, I consider feeling him pressed against me, naked. The few times his fingers grazed my skin were heaven, but once the clothes come off--he's a god and I'm... me.

I've been alone for so long. Surely one kiss won't hurt anything, one taste of his mouth should be harmless. Things don't have to go that far, but I'm wrong.

Love only comes around once in a lifetime. Only fools think otherwise, and I'm the biggest fool of them all.

Goodreads - C.S. Latu
All I can say was this was a home run in the co-author department. The skills of both HM Ward and Stacey Mosteller blended seamlessly together...I have never been one to dig the younger man angle, but, ahm, there was some swoons and smelling salts for Daniel.
Goodreads - Gloria Herrera
Beautifully written, this is a departure from the normal erotic romance books our author writes. This is a human story that most be told. Thankfully, there is hope and a glimmer of happiness if Genevieve is willing to take the risk. The first love scene is full of passion and the discovery of new beginnings. That made me cry too!
Goodreads - Stacy Hahn
This book was absolutely perfect! Second Chances pulled at my heart strings and had me ugly crying before I made it past the first chapter...You must read this touching book about loss, love, healing and discovering you can love again. Holly and Stacey did an amazing job on this book. I hope we get more collaboration from them in the future!

I received an advanced copy for my review and can honestly say my kids were worried they upset me because I cried.  This author can completely consume you in her writing.  The fear of the unknown and how your family and friends treat you after a life altering event is portrayed spot on.  I stayed up all night and read all the way through it.  I could not put it down.

Emotional and appropriate for our times - how do you pick up the pieces when the love of your life dies during deployment?

This is the recurring stories of so many women who lost their loved ones to war. They are expected to pick up the pieces and continue living, dealing with the heart-breaking reality of their loss. In the case of our story, Genevieve also finds out she is pregnant as she waits for her husband's weekly phone call that never comes. After trying to years to conceive, she finally has good news to share with him but his call never comes.

By now I hope you have picked up that you will need at least a box of tissues while reading this book. Our author has used her skills to portray the raw reality of losing your partner in life. How she pushes to survive the loss and make the effort to provide for her baby after this horrific loss.

    H. M. Ward has done it again. This time with another great writer. I loved this book, which I give 5 + stars. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Gen is a strong woman who lost her husband 2 years ago. Just before his death, she found out they were finally pregnant after trying for a long time. Her son CJ helps her through the grief. She wants to do everything on her own, and she has done great job the last two years. Her friends and mother are trying to pare her with different guys, but she does not want to replace her dead husband. Not before she sees Dan for who he really is.
Dan is the Lawn Boy who helps Gen.This is a great story about finding love again. At first I thought the 22-year-old Dan was too young for Gen, but he really surprised me. He is the perfect man - helpful, loving, happy for her son, sexy and he is willing to do anything for her. He is simply a great catch :)
You simply have to read this amazing book. You will cry, you will laugh and it's really hard to put down when once you have started.

This book is quite different from normal H.M Ward stories. It is missing the drama, angst, sex, hardcore desire ect...but what it has is romance, sadness, pain, loss, beauty, love, perseverance... Genevieve had it all, perfect husband, perfect life, until 1 day it all came crashing down. Now, in her mid thirties, she has to begin again. She finds herself interested in a man she feels she shouldn't be, as do most of those in her life. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and he is such a wonderful guy, why shouldn't she? she deserves to be happy though she feels like she is quite unattractive & frumpy & shouldn't have Dan's attention. lol. I very much enjoyed this story. I wish it had more passion & steam to it, but I get why it didn't. It's a beautiful love story about beginning again, especially when you think there is no way that you can or should possibly move on from your past. Don't pass this up :)

I loved this book, it had me crying so many times, both sad and happy tears. My heart broke for Genevieve,
how the first two chapters are written shows the horror of such a think happening, how one must feel, the
realization hitting her, and then to know that the one thing they wanted most was happening but without all
of the players being present. Then the chapter taking us back two months so we could learn more about
Cade and once again what it must be like to say goodbye to someone you love when they are off to fight for
our freedom, I can't imagine how difficult this is. Then we skip ahead two years and that is when I got to
see the true colors of Genny's mother. At first I really liked Gen's mother but wow was I surprised when we
got to see the real her, she was nasty, mean, and so uncaring most of the time. Her father was the
complete opposite, he was funny, loving, and supportive. I love CJ, he is so cute and I love how he tries
to say different people's names and how happy he always is to see his mother. Daniel is so sweet, sexy,
loving, and what a compassionate man, I loved how he was with CJ, it was adorable when he played the
dunking of the bread game with CJ. I was shocked to find out what his secret was, how awful that must
have been for him and how he must still e hurt to the core of his heart. I got so tired of everyone around
Gen telling her to go out and meet someone, and her mother telling her she should be moving on by now,
two years is not that long. I could not wait until Daniel and Genny stopped misunderstanding how each of
them felt for the other, it got frustrating. My heart broke for Daniel when Genny did not stand up for him with
her mother, it was devastating. The tears started again when Gen realized what a huge mistake she
made and tried to rectify the situation but it was a hard road full of tears and then finally one of her plans
works out and they live HEA. I loved the ending, it was just perfect. It was strange at first reading a book
that has Holly as one of the authors that did not even mention the Ferro name lol but it was a great book.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. Completely spoiler free
Second Chances was a surprisingly great book. The reason I say surprising is because I was worried about Ward deviating from her typical style and including a co author as well. I am in love with all her books as is. When I started to read this book I was hooked within the first few pages. The writing is great and flows well. I couldn't put the book down. Gen and Daniel are truly believable characters and the story is a lot more realistic. There are no sexy rich men that come along to sweep you off your feet in this book (not that that isn't an awesome fantasy) but you don't miss it. I cried more times than I can count while reading it and it is because it is so much like what happens in real life. Please pick this book up. You will be happy you did. Way to go Ward and Mosteller. The two of you work very well together.

What a sweet and refreshing story. A hot guy who loves a woman for her personality and not just her looks. Made me cry and sigh! Daniel was such a sweetheart because of how he treated Genevieve and cared for her son as well. Definitely worth the read!

I received this book as an ARC and was beyond excited as I have come to love the characters created by HM Ward. The book was fine, but not up to the usual quality that I expect when reading one of her books. Though the storyline held promise, the character development was rather flat. One of the reasons I like HM Ward's books is because I enjoy the characters, twisted aspects of their personality and all. These characters were not layered enough to make me wonder what they would do next; it was pretty much a given because it was going to be the average choice. Unlike Avery's spunk, Trystan's soulfulness, Sean's intensity or Jon's dark reasons for acting out, these characters, though in difficult circumstances, did not shine. That being said, I eagerly await my next Ferro family novel and have great faith in HM Ward as a writer in this genre.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of Second Chances and I couldn't wait to dive in. I was in tears by the first chapter. Genevieve lost her husband while he was deployed and then, totally got lost in her grief. Why not? She found out she was pregnant and he never got to meet his son. So tragic. All of her friends kept trying to set her up on dates. Heck, even her Mom was trying to set her up. Yikes. But then, there was Daniel...the lawn boy. He had been a constant in her life for years and he was such a good person and he looked out for her. Apparently, Dan had a crush on her for quite some time and she had never known. Gen developed feelings for him and as they ignited it scared her. Could she really be ready for a second chance? And not only that Dan was a younger man what would people think? This book was everything I imagined it would be and more and I think Holly and Stacey did an amazing job. I really want to go on and on, but I want you to read the book.

HM Ward may not have written this alone but it has her style all over it.

I love this author because she continues to amaze. I am so blessed to have received a copy for my honest review. It is a great collaboration and a touching story of how Genevieve moves on after tragedy strikes. I cried for her over and over, it was so heartbreaking. She deserves her HEA after the hurdles she has to encounter.

True to her word, HM has included a fine Fierro man but i am really not sure how he works into the family. I loved it and can't wait for more from this duo.

This book was absolutely perfect! Second Chances pulled at my heart strings and had me ugly crying before I made it past the first chapter.

Genevieve (Gen) and Cade were high school sweethearts, first loves, everything to each other. They were so happy until the unthinkable happened and he didn't make it back from the war. Gen felt grief like no other. Devastated that Cade didn't even know she was pregnant with the child they had longed for for so many years.

Two years pass and she doesn't know how to move on. Her entire life centers around her young son, CJ, who is the spitting image of his father. Her family and friends keep pushing her to date and find someone. Gen finally gives into the pressure from her friends and goes out to a bar. She is saved from a drunken man by Daniel, her "lawn boy". Only he's no longer a boy, but a hot man.

Daniel is 10 years younger than Gen, but he is everything a man should be. He not only takes care of her yard, but he is always there to help take care of her and CJ too. Why has Gen never noticed this before? Gen has a hard time letting Cade go,but she is having feelings she hasn't felt in so long. Gen's insecurities and the pressure from her mother have her questioning just why someone like Dan would be interested in her. She doesn't know if she'll ever get her second chance at love.

You must read this touching book about loss, love, healing and discovering you can love again. Holly and Stacey did an amazing job on this book. I hope we get more collaboration from them in the future!

I must admit I was quite surprised once again by the ability of H.M. Ward to completely transport the reader in a new world. She has  created a totally different environment vs. some of the other books she published which is really great. I guess it's may be less dreamy and glittery, more realistic and heart breaking but full of hope at the same time.
No hot, dangerous, billionaire hero in this book but rather a "more realistic"  life situation with regular people where life is not always easy.
I really liked the fact that the age dynamic and relationship between character were quite different vs. what you usually read in romance as it made it more real, more approachable to a certain extend allowing you to think...
Even if not my favorite of them all, I really enjoy the reading and could not stop until late at night to finish the reading.
Nevertheless as much as I liked the overall story and the character dynamics, some of the scene were a bit too much to my taste probably resulting from different cultural horizon not being American and fully acquainted with the culture makes it some time more difficult to relay to.
Looking forward to the next one!

Warning: You will need a box of tissues to read this book!

Oh, where to start...well Holly did it again! This novel is stand alone and different from her other stories. But don't worry, it's different in a good way! This book is very real, in fact, some people have probably experienced part, if not more of this story. Holly and Stacey really drive the ball home, hitting every emotional pit stop on the way. You'll laugh and cry...and really just FEEL. You'll feel everything, from being overjoyed to devastated and every other point on the emotional spectrum. These ladies did a good job with character development (as you always do Holly) and it's almost as if you're standing there, holding the main characters hand and can't help but feel for her...there's that word again! If only you could reach into this reality and hold on to her, believe me, you would.

This book never slows down. You won't find yourself being bored or impatient, it was written with perfection. The story of Genevieve, Cade, CJ and the lawn boy is, without a doub,t a winner! Going through a great loss is possibly the toughest struggle in life and Genevieve goes through more than a fair share of it. Her little CJ keeps her going, but even being a parent can sometimes have it's rough patches. Then the most unsuspecting person-because he's always been around-swoops into her life to change it again, in the best ways possible. Who wouldn't want a totally lickable lawn boy ;) As you read her story, Genevieve will take you through all the stages of grief, then pull out to find joy, grief again and then finally settling down in her battle with fate.

What a wonderful story of struggle, grief and great joy! You shared an fantastic story with us Holly and I'm glad Stacey was there to help develop it as well. You are both amazing and an inspiration!

Another great story!!!! This was an intense and emotional read, simply amazing. I was lucky enough to
receive an advanced reader's copy. Genevieve's story encouraged me to believe that second chances
are possible for everyone. The love shared between Gen and Cade seemed like the kind of love one
only experiences once in a lifetime. But for Genevieve, she would be fortunate to experience that kind of
love again in the arms of Daniel. While it was extremely rocky for the two, it was well worth the journey.
After experiencing such a devastating loss and emotional despair, it was great to see Gen live again
and not allow what others thought stand in her way. She was able to move on from her past without
forgetting, but allowing herself to make room for a future with someone who loved her just as much as
she was loved before. Holly and Stacey did a wonderful job at displaying real life events than many may
face and experience and showing readers that happiness is still obtainable. Genevieve and Daniel's
story is one that will make all doubters believe again. I highly recommend Second Chances to others!
You won't be disappointed and I believe you'll be truly inspired.
