compelling and breathtaking

This book kept my wife and I up late at night scared and intrigued. It was my first John Saul novel. I am sure he has others that are good too. We highly recommned a companion when you read this novel.

Absolutely riveting!

This book was wonderful! I was enthralled from start to finish!

John saul

Once again, John Saul has produced a book of evil and mind chilling fear. A page turner, as always, and a must read, like all his psychological thrillers!!!

Excellent, scary read

This wa smy firs John Saul novel, amd I couldn't put it down. I've now read many more of his novels, but this was by far my favorite.

I like john saul books. I read this when i was ten and i loved it. If you have a kid thats into more twisted mature kinda stuff id recomend this for them. I dont think this was ment for kids but im sure teenagers would enjoy it and its an easy read for adults. Overall it was great i loved how it was twisted and ocasionally gorey. Read it.

Raining day Ghost story

It has a bunch of shocking twists and that amusing ghost story added to it. Perfect for a rainy night all alone in the dark. But not so bad where you cant sleep...Second Child had a satisfying ending. Something that left me with a deep breath of that "All's well that ends well" .... But then with what really happened to all the others, I was sad there was no part 2....

Disappointing!

I just finished this book and boy am I disappointed in the ending!!! Shame on you, John Saul! It's as if he just got tired of writing the story and decided to end it as quickly as possible. The ending is very anti-climatic and leaves you unsatisfied with too many loose ends. I've always enjoyed other books by John Saul but this one was a big disappointment.

Second Child-John Saul

I liked this book. It starts out with 15 year old Terri losing her mom and step dad in a mysterious fire in their home. She then goes to live with her real dad,step mom, and lil half sister Melissa. Melissa is 13 and is abused by her mother and to hide from it she let's her imaginary(or so it seems imaginary) friend D'Arcy take control of her body. Terri soon fits in with all the other rich kids leaving Melissa feeling lonlier than ever with the other kids picking on her. Day by day things turn out for the worse and Terri has Melissa convinced she is doing bad things blaming it on D'Arcy. Don't want to give too much away but as you can tell Terri is the evil sibbling! This is the first book I've ever read by John Saul and I liked it. I've read a lot of reviews for his books some good while others not so good. So just like me you'll prolly have to find out for yourself if you like his books.

Second Child

This was a great book from cover to cover. I really enjoyed the storyline and the originality. I also enjoyed all the characters and little side bar stories to go with the book as well.

If you like John Saul, then you will really enjoy Second Child. It is a very well written book and it keeps you on the edge of your set.

Good Read

This was a really good read. It held my attention and never got slow. I'm a little disappointed in the end because there are so many unanswered questions, but I still really liked the book.

I read this book some years ago, but didn't recognize the title when I picked it up from the library recently. No matter. Although after reading a few pages, I quickly realized I had read the book before, I still found it an engrossing read. This isn't my favorite John Saul book, but on the other hand I've never read one that bored me. Despite his one-dimensional characters, it is his fast-moving, twisting plot that keeps me glued. I only wish he could write his books as fast as I can read them.

felt to much like my own life

1 star for holding my interest to the book, the second star for the sympathy to the characters. I've read many John Saul books and this one felt too close to my own life. I hated this one. Third star goes to John Saul himself for writing another book that grips you to finish reading his book,otherwise I would have left it at 2 stars.

Great Story

My uncle had a couple of John's Sauls books after coming home for the hosptial so I happen to pick up Second Child after he read it I was immediately hooked. I was so drawn to the characters it was almost like I was watching a movie. The imagery of the setting and the gory details had me glued to the pages. It also touched my emotions as I felt symathy for Melissa and Darcy and a growing dislike for Melissa's cold hearted social seeking abusive mother Phyliis and her evil rotten-to-the core step-sister Terri.If you want a good story I recommed you pick up this book

A Classic

This was the first book that I ever read by Saul. This book inspired me to read all of his works, and I have. Great book!!!

My favorite book

I read this book for the first time in middle school, I read it in three days! I've read it twice since, and it still gives me chills!

this is a great book

I've only read two books by john saul anf both were great and I usually can't read most 'horror' books the authors seem so worried about the gory details they forget the story has to be interesting and could use some suspence but not the case here. He remembers everything and much more.

good reading

this book is great. I first started reading it in the sixth grade and never wanted to put it down to go to school.It's got suspense but not to much.Its aswome and I highly recommend it
