Sometimes fairy tales do come true...

As a single mother of two, Faye O'Neill has no time for fairy tales. She's not even certain she believes in luck. Practical, smart and desperate to escape a shadowy past, Faye takes a job at a top advertising firm in London where she hopes she and her children can find a fresh start. When she finds the beautiful two-story flat for rent in a stately old Victorian complete with a neglected but tumbling English garden, she can scarcely believe her good fortune. But it's not long before Faye realizes everything in the old home may be as peaceful as it seems.

A strange light begins to appear in her children's rooms at night, and then there's the reclusive elderly tenant, Crazy Wendy, her landlady warned her to steer clear of, the woman who spends her evenings spying on Faye's children from her garret-room window. The woman who believes she is Peter Pan's Wendy. To make matters worse, Faye, who has sworn off men, discovers her downstairs neighbor Jack is a disturbingly handsome professor with a talent for charming women and children alike. Before she knows it, Faye has embarked upon a whole new adventure into a world where anything might be possible, where broken hearts can be healed by a kiss, and where Neverland may not be a place of fables, but a forgotten land one can still find if they are only brave enough to follow the second star to the right.

"Mary Alice Monroe breathes new life into the timeless legend of Peter Pan-and the result is nothing short of magical. Second Star to the Right will whisk you away at the whim of this masterful storyteller." Signe Pike, bestselling author of Faery Tale

SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT by MARY ALICE MONROE Mary Alice Monroe manages to blur the lines between reality and fantasy in this delightful tale . The Author shared with her Readers what was happening in her life while she was writing this book, she was taking care of her dying Mom so SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT holds a special place in her heart and in turn with us, the reader. Faye, a single Mom escaping an abusive relationship journeys to London to give herself and her children a fresh  start. Raising her children, Maddie and Tom not to believe in Fairy Tales, she is taken aback when they fall for the Charming Wendy that lives upstairs in the Flat they rented. Wendy fills the children's heads with wonderful stories of Peter Pan and trips to Neverland. She opens up their world to magic and fantasy because she still believes in them herself! In fact she claims to be Peter Pan’s Wendy!!  Also living in Flat number 14 is Jack, a brilliant Professor looking for answers to his own past. He soon finds he has ties to Wendy from long ago.  Jack is also drawn to Faye and her children realizing no matter how successful he is , the biggest part of life that he is missing out on is the love and stability of a family.     SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT is a wonderful story about healing and finding the love and magic in the everyday issues we face and to never stop believing in magic no matter how old we get.

I have never read the book Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie although I am familiar with the story. I was anxious to read Mary Alice Monroe's tale of what became of Peter Pan's Wendy. Mary Alice Monroe weaves the story filled with magic with the reality of grown up life. right from the start of the book I was living in Number 14 from the wonderful descriptions. Also, there is nothing that is predictable about the story, you have to stay with it to know what happens. There was truly magic in the house known as No. 14 in London. Wendy showed Faye, Maddie, Tom and Jack that all you had to do was believe and you would have nothing to fear.

I believe! Mary Alice Monroe has taken the timeless story of Peter Pan and Wendy and said "what if". What if this wasn't just a fairytale? What if we believe in dreams and magic? What if Neverland is a real place? What if children can still go there? And what if adults can still believe in magic too? Faye is a divorced mother of two children. She, and her children, are trying to recover from the abusive relationship that was her marriage to their father. Faye thinks the answer is to face reality, don't waste time on dreams, and that "happy endings" are only in storybooks. She moves to London, where she rents an apartment in an old house that was once a beautiful family home. The old lady, Wendy, who owns the house, lives on the top foor. The other tenant is Jack. He is a scientist and astronomer. He befriends Faye and her children. He is fun and friendly, but he is running from reality. He lives among the stars and he thinks because he can't remember his past, he can't have a real future. Through Wendy, Jack, Faye, and her children all grow up. They learn that life is more than facts and what is "real". Life is about dreams, magic, love, and believing in the impossible. I don't want to spoil anyone's enjoyment of this book by saying more, but this is a charming story, and the end is satisfying and touches the heart.

Mary Alice Monroe has done it again.  She dusted off an old Fairy Tale and placed it into the lives of real people who are dealing with problems in their lives.  Hope, joy and love come through in each page.  I had a smile throughout my reading .  Thanks for letting me know that time cannot dim a zest for life and love.

I BELIEVE!  A magical journey into the lives of a modern family. Not one of blood or marriage but a family of the heart.  Mary Alice Monroe has captured the fantasy and magic of childhood and brought it right back into the readers own heart. She has made a believer out of me.  A wonderful way to start the Christmas Holiday Season

This book was OK for someone who likes fantasy type books. It was not Mary Alice Monroe's usual style but OK. If you like this one, you will LOVE her other books.

When I was little I remember going to the Muny Theater in St. Louis to see the play Peter Pan. I loved it as a child! I also love the ride at both Disney parks. To me Peter Pan inspires your imagination. Mary Alice Monroe takes on Peter Pan in her latest novel Second Star to the Right. Synopsis: Faye O’Neil and her children Tom and Maddie move to a flat in London. Tom has suffered emotionally and psychologically from an accident. His sister Maddie is very cautious and looks after her brother. She is there to start a new job. This flat is special in many ways because the children begin to have hope through the little lights they see in the evening. They also are obsessed with Wendy Darling Forester who shares great stories of Peter Pan. Faye is not sure about encouraging the imagination of her children. Will her son Tom’s struggles change her mind? Will he succeed in encouraging Faye’s imagination? My Thoughts: I unfortunately did not love this novel. I very much enjoy Mary Alice’s writing but this novel struck me as being different than what she usually publishes. Don’t get me wrong I love the idea surrounding the idea of Peter Pan. I just struggled in keeping my interest in the story. I thought the setting was great! The Flat is described as the Darling home which Wendy inherited. Her daughter later transforms into apartments. This house includes a description of the garden. This garden was influenced by Wendy’s experience with Peter Pan. I was also able to share the emotional up and down of the characters. Don’t miss her next novel coming out soon! by Jencey Writer's Corner

Wonderful story. Very heart warming. Pulls you in right from the very beginning. I am a hugh fan of Mary Alice Monroe and I truly love Peter Pan so it brought together two of my favorites. It really does blur the lines between fantasy and reality. This book truly kept me up at night reading late.
