Florence Scovel Shinn (1871-1940)A well-known writer of self-help books in the early twentieth century, Florence Scovel Shinn was a children’s literature illustrator as well as a New Thought metaphysical author and teacher. Her main philosophy focuses on the power of positive thinking and her writings often include true stories from her clients to prove how positive thoughts and attitudes really do lead to happiness and success. Shinn’s works include Your Word is Your Wand (1928), The Secret Door to Success (1940), and her first and most well-known book, The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925).
