Overview

Sovereign Power. Eternal Pleasure.

Revealed at last in this new vampire saga for the ages: the true, untold story of the “Virgin Queen” and her secret war against the Vampire King of England. . . .

On the eve of her coronation, Elizabeth Tudor is summoned to the tomb of her mother, Anne Boleyn, to learn the truth about her bloodline—and her destiny as a Slayer. Born to battle the bloodsucking fiends who ravage the night, and sworn to defend her beloved realm against all enemies, Elizabeth soon finds herself stalked by the most dangerous and seductive vampire of all.

He is Mordred, bastard son of King Arthur, who sold his soul to destroy his father. After centuries in hiding, he has arisen determined to claim the young Elizabeth as his Queen. Luring her into his world of eternal night, Mordred tempts Elizabeth with the promise of everlasting youth and beauty, and vows to protect her from all enemies. Together, they will rule over a golden age for vampires in which humans will exist only to be fed upon. Horrified by his intentions, Elizabeth embraces her powers as a Slayer even as she realizes that the greatest danger comes from her own secret desire to yield to Mordred . . . to bare her throat in ecstasy and allow the vampire king to drink deeply of her royal blood.

As told by Lucy Weston, the vampire prey immortalized in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, this spellbinding account will capture your heart and soul—forever.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A highly palatable fusion of dark fantasy, historical fiction, and Arthurian legend, this first installment of an audacious new mashup series features Queen Elizabeth as Britain's only hope to defeat an "ancient foe" threatening to overwhelm the land. The narrative, presented as a recently unearthed secret diary, begins when an encounter with Anne Boleyn's ghost awakens Elizabeth's latent supernatural powers. With powerful enemies watching her every move, the young queen is informed of an even more pressing concern: Mordred, a thousand-year-old vampire--who happens to be the bastard son of King Arthur--wants to turn Elizabeth into one of the undead and rule England by her side. Powered by exceptional character development, a meticulously detailed portrayal of 1559 London, and brisk pacing, this utterly readable novel will more than satisfy fans of fantasy and historical fiction alike. (Jan.)
Library Journal
In recent years, we've seen famous literary and historical characters jump on the monster-killing bandwagon. Elizabeth Bennet stomps zombies, and Abe Lincoln spears vampires—apparently when not tending to affairs of state. The latest entry in this subgenre of urban fantasy/paranormal romance/historical fiction is none other than Elizabeth Tudor, the Virgin Queen. Author Weston (yes, that Lucy from Bram Stoker's Dracula) crafts an amusing yarn about the queen's destiny aside from ruling England. Borrowing from Arthurian legend, British history, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the novel is told in alternating chapters by Elizabeth and her supernatural enemy, Mordred, the vampire son of King Arthur. No previous knowledge of the Tudors is needed; Weston name checks important historical figures like Elizabeth's adviser William Cecil, and important events are mentioned, along with approximate dates. While it's obvious that this is all fiction, there's just enough weight behind Elizabeth's memories of her mother, Anne Boleyn, and her father, Henry VIII. VERDICT This fun fictional account of the famed monarch will please fans of Seth Grahame-Smith or those in search of a paranormal Alison Weir.—Stacey Rottiers Comfort, Dexter Dist. Lib., MI

    History with a Bite

This book was so much fun to read. I got into a obsession reading the Tudor series from Phillipa Gregory series and the HBO show the Tudors, so when ET Vampire Slayer was released I I knew I had to read it.
I loved the imaginary character world building presented in this book by bring the vampire element into history. Could you imagine a show on this book, it would rock! The turn of Elizabeth into a slayer was just great, we see all these character developments into her growth as a woman, a Queen, a wife, a Slayer and they are just so well described and put together into a strong cohesive story that I was amazed.
If felt in reading that this could be a believable element in history because the detail in the book was great to read. The time and place description as well as the added element of the supernatural was superb. If we added some supernatural into the history books then I bet teens these days would be interested in their history books ;)
After reading through this story and seeing all the woven elements the author put into it with the historic detail and the added supernatural I cannot wait for more from her. It was spellbinding for sure!

    Before Buffy...

When I was in 6th grade, I went through a phase where I read every book I could get my hands on about Elizabeth I and Henry VIII. Thought I was pretty well versed on her life and times, but somehow missed the rumors of her secret life as a vampire slayer! Who knew? ;)

I'm hesitant to read too many of the "revised histories" out there, but I couldn't resist this one; probably because of my childhood infatuation with Elizabeth. And all in all, I wasn't disappointed. Elizabeth is the main character, but we also have a few chapters from Mordred's point of view. Those are easy to identify, because his chapters are all italicized. Haven't seen that before, but made it easier to tell the chapters apart.

Have seen a few mixed reviews on this book, and several people have complained about the writing style. I liked it. Felt that it fit in well with the Elizabethan time period, yet wasn't too overblown. In fact, I liked the whole idea of Elizabeth having a secret life as a vampire slayer. The book felt like the start of a series and if there are plans for a sequel, I'm looking forward to it!

    Not just another Vampire book

This book really surprised me. I love this era. I recently finished the Tudor series on HBO. I did a little research to refresh my memory on Elizabeth. And I wasn't expecting a lot from this book. I was surprised it delivered a very good story, well written, not just another vampire book. This book has me waiting to find out more about Elizabeth the Vampire Slayer. I am hoping for more books in this series.

    Bridget's Review

As a vampire-addict, I have high standards for vampire books and The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer won me over! It's brilliantly written and once I started reading, I could not put it down. I love the author's voice and her ability to paint a picture with her words. If you are looking for the next hit book, you've found it!

    a fun alternative historical fantasy

In 1559 as she is about to become Queen Elizabeth I, the soon to be monarch meets the ghost of her mom Anne Bolyn, whose only transgression that led to her execution was not bearing a male. Anne informs her daughter that besides ruling over England, she has a much more important mission of the Slayer that has come down though the generations of her ancestors as far back as King Arthur whose offspring from the wrong side of the sheets Mordred is a vampire.

Mordred visits the young Tudor to offer her a deal of a lifetime; in his terms that is already a millennium. Although Elizabeth knows what her late mom wanted from her, Mordred's offer of immortality and ruling over England together for eternity are much more tempting than fighting his kind.

Similar in concept to Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith including a journal, The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer is made fresh by fascinating Mordred as he brings a delightfully evil option to the young Tudor Queen. Although one must wonder why Anne waited until Elizabeth is queen to tell her daughter of her heritage, fans will enjoy this fast-paced tale from the moment that Elizabeth is escorted to meet her mom's ghost and never slowing down as Lucy Weston provides a fun alternative historical fantasy.
