Overview

"Bianca went through many trials and tribulations on the streets of Africa just because she looked different. She was born with albinism a condition that affects her sight and skin pigmentation. Her mother who died while delivering her, spent all her life as a prostitute thus prompting midwives to think that Bianca was a witch born out of the union of alien demons and a human (her mother) who was promiscuous as no one knew who her father was. Left at the mercy of an abusive exorcist, Bianca grew up believing that she was indeed a witch. The worst happened when an attempt to adopt her by an activist's family failed when Loubie (the activist's wife) in an attempt to hide her past from her husband, started to blame her pregnancy's complications on the little albino girl. Her eviction by the couple blew the last chance of survival she got. Bianca ended up forcibly being recruited by a government special albino military squad whose chief believed that albinos were capable of mutating as ghosts to scare enemies. This creative nonfiction piece leaves every reader engrossed up until the last page"

This is a short story that gives an excellent look at the way it is for Albino Africans. Insightful, sharp and concise and leaves one feeling as if more should be done to help this disadvantaged group. I appreciate Dunn's balance between personal storytelling and literary essaying. This book was a fast and easy read. I recommend it to everyone male and female alike. It may shape the way you see people that are different from you.

The Secret of Luminaries is about Bianca, a little Albino girl who went through many trials and tribulations on the streets of Africa just because she looked different. The worst happened when an attempt to adopt her by an activist’s family failed due to his own marital family issue with his wife. Her eviction by the couple threw that in her face every chance she got. Bianca ended up forcibly recruited by a government special albino military squad whose chief believed that albinos were capable of mutating as ghosts to scare enemies. I think the book is a good book for every readers of any genre who wants to make positive change in our world to save the most vulnerable. People who hadn’t really been through anything should read this book and realize how fortunate they are. I think this book teaches readers that they are one choice away from being (JP) the activist’s former predicament that also led to his demise. I like this book because it shows the bad choices JP made that greatly impacted the life of the little albino girl even though he had a genuine great heart. The book also exposes a practice that should be voiced by every reader who reads it to help the most vulnerable out of the blood-thirsty African governments that are waging war using innocent children and the sick to maintain themselves forever in power. I recommend this book to media houses, colleges, libraries, government institutions, Lawmakers, activists, parents etc... Everyone should offer this book as an option because it has a humanitarian cause behind it.

What can you say about The Secret f Luminaries? Well, I would say that I never wanted to read a book from an author I never read before. However, when I saw the cover of this book, I decided to give it a benefit of doubt. OMG! It turns out to be the most informative chilling story I ever read. I need more from this author. It was teasy, a loft of surprise and suspense especially at the end. The Betrayal of the activist to the little Albino girl was the saddest part that made me think how things could have turned to be different for the little girl if he did follow his heart. Still thinking about the story that I decided to sponsor more copies for the spreading of its cause. If you want a light reading story line, something to read at the beach, on an airplane or over a weekend...this is a book for you.
