A red 1956 Chevy Hotrod is terrorizing Midvale, or is it? Join teen detectives Sean and Melissa, along with their bloodhound Slobs as they try to get to the root of this roaring machine's appearances and disappearances. In the latest of the "Bloodhounds Inc." series, Bill Myers intertwines the Bible within the text of this mystery to refute the existence of ghosts. The mystery itself is an over used premise of a person feeling unappreciated and turning against his employer in order to inherit money. In addition, the moments when the biblical lessons are revealed seem awkward and out of place. Myers story includes non-existent technology and Melissa and Sean perform improbable if not impossible feats. He also includes and entity made of energy which communicates with the young sleuths. For many readers this type of inconsistency could be somewhat troubling, and creates and awkward story. 2000, Bethany House Publishers, Ages 7 to 14, $5.99. Reviewer: John D.
