Overview

Holly Gordon’s estrangement from her family makes loneliness of the Christmas season hit close to home. Volunteering for the annual Ashton Falls Secret Santa Program is more than a comfort, it’s a blessing. Just knowing she’s able to help another hurting soul experience the joy of a heartfelt Christmas makes her own reality a tiny bit sweeter, that is, until Marcus Jenner ends up on her list.

Marcus Jenner is more than a bronze, muscled looker. This Chickasaw loner isn’t happy being placed on the town’s Secret Santa list. Suffering from the blow of a devastating loss, he has chosen to withdraw from living almost completely. For the life of him, he can’t figure why this pretty little blonde keeps bumping into him, calling him by name, and insisting on giving him presents. Unfortunately for Marcus, every time she does, a billowing cloud of havoc seems to ensue. Why can’t this uninvited vixen leave him alone?

They say time and fate have all of the answers. Holly, in all of her innocence, is drawn to Marcus like a moth to the flame. But Marcus has no intentions of submitting to the threat of his newfound feelings. A painful exchange pushes their lives into a pendulum chaos. His demand for privacy is granted by Holly’s hidden illness. Her sudden absence hits him hard, especially when the arrival of a stranger delivers the rest of his gifts. Right away, he knows something’s horribly wrong.

Love and selfless giving can rouse a wounded, sleeping heart. But sometimes a Secret Santa gets a few unexpected gifts of her own.

    Secret Santa by Kristine Cheney

Secret Santa by Kristine Cheney This was a short story I picked up because of the authors self-promotion. I don't think I would have bought it otherwise. Secret Santa is the story of Holly Gordon who loves Christmas and playing Secret Santa for some of the folks around town. It is in this capacity that Holly meets Marcus Jenner. Who makes Scrooge look like a softy. The reason I don't usually get books like this is because they have an unfortunate tendency to be either too saccharine or too maudlin. I must commend Ms. Cheney as this story while being sweet and sentimental never crossed the line.

The title is in more ways than one exactly what it implies. Yes we meet two people brought together by the spirit of Christmas and yes the gift is a unforgettable surprise. We meet Holly (yes indeed a perfect Christmissy name), who likes to play secret Santa to the folks in her town and this is how she meets the stunning and remarkably grumpy Marcus.

Marcus has had is ups and downs in the love department but he soon finds the attraction he feels towards Holly is one that is not going to just go away and soon he acts on the impulse only to discover a deep secret, or what he believes to be a drug addiction and back out of the whole situation immediately.

Holly is totally head over heals in love with Marcus but of course with him thinking the needle marks on her arms are from a serious drug addiction she would rather run then stay and listen to him chasing her out of his life.

Bet your wondering what the needle marks are from huh? Well I am not going to tell you, but what I will tell you is that you will never see this one coming it will hit you with such a force that, just like me, you will be crying your eyes out and reaching for the Kleenex in no time.

Secret Santa is a short story written by the very talented Kristine Cheney that will make you laugh at some of the funniest dialogue I have read in a while and will also make you cry and wish there is something you could do for these characters to make the misery go away.

It is a tale of true love, kindness in a small town, strangers becoming friends and the real insight into the meaning of "don't judge a book, or person in this case, by it's cover".

I am no fan of tearful drama like books and I usually tend to not even try to read them to the end as life can be sad enough sometimes and I tend to like my books with mystery, love and action lots of action, but with this one I was intrigued to find out the truth about Holly and why she has those mysterious marks, and even though I bawled my eyes out I still could not stop reading and in the end I was pleasantly surprised

    So touched, I bawled

Omigosh, I devoured this novella in one sitting - couldn't put it down. It was laugh out loud funny in parts, and by the end I was bawling my eyes out (which is a rare thing for ANY book to do - this has only happened to me 3 times). I LOVED THIS STORY! You can't read this and not believe that there truly are genuinely kind people that have no agenda. They really do exist!

I highly recommend not only this book, but this author. Kristine Cheney is a knock-your-socks-off jewel, who is going to have this fan forever!

    Sweet Love Story

This is such a sweet love story. Your heart is touched by Holly and Marcus. Kristine Cheney does another awesome job pulling you into the lives of two people with hard pasts and an even harder future. Beware though it is definitly a tear jerker so get the kleenex ready :)

    Great Christmas Story!

This is a great, fun, easy read for the Christmas season. This story could easily be made in to a Hallmark Holiday Movie. This book ends well, but I can say that I would love to hear more about the how the lives of the main characters turn out over the next year or two. If you enjoy a feel good Christmas story, this is a book that you should be reading.

This is a short sweet Christmas novella. Marcus was to die for..

This is a short sweet Christmas novella. Marcus was to die for...one of my favorite lines was when she compared him to the Old Spice guy and Marcus was way better. I am a fan of this author so I read the book without reading the back cover and was totally surprised at her illness. I was so moved when you hear the message of why Marcus is on the Secret Santa list. Holly was such a fun character. Her antics were hilarious; she was determined to keep delivering her gifts. I highly recommend reading this sweet story even after Christmas. More Than a Review

My Thoughts:  I read this story after someone on my FB page

My Thoughts:  I read this story after someone on my FB page kept telling me I "had to" and that I would love it.  They were so right.  This was a very emotional and beautiful story.  I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
