Overview

Steering clear of abstract discourse, SECRET TECHNIQUES FOR CONTROLLING SADNESS, ANGER, FEAR, ANXIETY, AND OTHER EMOTIONS provides readers with specific, effective techniques for modifying unwanted emotions and eliminating them at will. These techniques are based on observation of how the mind and body actually work. Through examples drawn from everyday life, SECRET TECHNIQUES shows readers how emotions are triggered somatically, and it invites them to recall and observe similar events from their own lives. By observing their own emotional states and applying the techniques explained in the book, they can quickly begin to regulate their feelings for the better, intentionally modifying or even completely interrupting an unwanted emotion’s formation. The practice of these techniques offers much-needed relief to people whose lives are now limited by emotions—worry, stress, fear—that they cannot control.

Reset reflects author’s nearly 20 years of Buddhist meditation experience, but the book makes no mention of religion, and the exercises it describes can be easily performed by anyone of any (or no) faith tradition. The variety of techniques offered ensures that each reader will find something that works in his or her own life.

Excellent self-help guide. Very explanatory and clear. I would definitely recommend it for someone who wants to learn a basic tactic of extinguishing unwanted or negative feelings or emotions. The book's author seems to know what he is saying.
I like this book and will follow the tactics described. This texts also lets you look at yourself from a different angle and be an observer of your mental or emotional state. If you someone who knows a thing or two about meditation you wont have too much trouble to follow this book's pathway. The advices and techniques are worth trying. I say for myself: "Money well spent!"

Secret Techniques for Controlling Sadness, Anger, Fear, Anxiety, and Other Emotions does something that no other book that I’ve read does: It breaks down emotions in bodily sensations and then traces the techniques that human mind uses to regulate feelings in real life. I know that feelings can and often do have somatic manifestations from psychology courses, but I did not know that you can use your body to regulate your emotions the way your mind does. It’s extraordinary, in my opinion. I highly recommend this book.

Our pastor recommended this book. He said it’s an excellent example of how one should observe and regulate his/her thoughts and actions. The sure book is intriguing, but the techniques that it describes aren’t easy.
