A Desperate Choice…
After suffering under the iron fists of powerful men her whole life, Catherine of Somerset considers herself fortunate when fate makes her a widow and frees her two children from a cruel father’s tyranny. But her relief is short-lived. Her even more brutal brother-in-law Eduard, a High Champion of the king, arrives to claim his estate, and Catherine is swept into a nightmare. Eduard offers Catherine a terrible choice: Either she will assume a false identity and marry the fierce warrior knight who is his chief rival, paving the way for the man’s murder...or her children will die. That the handsome stranger she is bound to destroy proves honorable and good – deadly on the field, yet gentle and compassionate with her – wrenches her heart. Yet she cannot falter, or her innocent babes will pay the price.
A Forbidden Passion…
Baron Grayson de Camville bears a secret of his own – a haunted past that helped shape him into a relentless force of justice as King Henry III’s most skillful High Champion. When he agrees to take a bride, Gray merely fulfills his king’s command, but neither he nor Catherine is prepared for the passionate completion they find in each other’s arms. Desire grows with each moment together, with each sweet touch and soul-shattering kiss, until there is no escape from the ecstasy of their union...or from the lies that threaten to tear them apart. It is a tender trap, and one that can only be broken by surrendering to love and the most dangerous action of all – relinquishing once and for all every one of their...

Meet the Author

Books have been a part of Mary Reed McCall’s life for as long as she can remember. As a young woman, whenever she wasn't in tap or ballet class, playing the flute or piano, enacting a role on the stage of her local community theater, or interacting with any of her six sisters (yes, six – and no brothers!), she was reading - books and stories of all kinds, but particularly novels, from literary works to genre fiction. Drawn by intense emotions, vivid descriptions, and interesting, well-developed characters, she decided early on that she, too, wanted to write powerful stories that might wend their way into readers' hearts.
It took quite a while for that dream to become reality, however. She first pursued a different career path, studying at the University of Leningrad in the former USSR and completing her undergraduate degrees in Russian and English from the University of Rochester, with the intent to work in the area of national security. Fortunately, she realized within a short time that her calling was elsewhere, and so she turned to her love of books for inspiration, earning her Master's degree in English Literature from the State University of New York at Albany, and eventually becoming a high school and adjunct college English instructor and then a novelist.
Currently, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and their two children, teaching by day and writing at night (or in the early morning hours!), and enjoying the thrill of weaving complex and often romantic tales, creating worlds where justice prevails, and where the love of true hearts can indeed conquer all.
