Secrets is the story of a devastating illness and what it did to one family. It is also about the destructive force that society’s judgment plays in a homosexual’s life, and in the lives of the people who love him. In 1987, AIDS was a hideous death sentence. Medical research on the disease had barely begun. So, when Carol realized her son had the disease, she knew he was doomed. At first, the family gathered together, wanting to be helpful and loving. As time passed, the ruthless progression of the disease took a toll on everyone involved. Carol’s son also needed help with finances. Money became an overwhelming issue. In spite of the problems, Carol was determined to give her son both emotional and financial support. But she couldn’t have known the challenges that awaited her.
