    Very good book but........

This book was one of my favorites!! I loved lance and rese as the protagonists! It was a great mystery and it kept my attention. But i must say......two things dissapointed me. 1) even thiugh lance is a catholic christian i dont feel as though he shared his faith the way he should have with rese. He lives in this house with her and sees her everyday but instead of witnessing to her hes making out with her which brings me to my second point......2) does anyone value the sacredness of physical touch in an actual relationship, rese and lance ARE NOT MARRIED.....HECK THEY ARENT EVEN DATING but the two of time engage in more sensual physical activity than i wouldve lijed. And lance is suppised to bd a a christian. I guess everyone doesnt have the same standards. My opinion is that you really shouldnt be doing ANY of that stuff until you are married......doing those things creates to much of an opportunity to disobey god, yourself and your partner.

    GOOD BUT NOT BEST

The story line AND the characters were totally great. The thing that would keep this book from being "over the top award winning" for a christian novel -- would be the romance part. Seemed that the author wanted to make sure it appealed to the romantic readers --consequently it got bogged down in kissing and sexual tension. The characters spent a bit too much time "thinking" -- for page after page. Bottom line -- NOTHING she wrote was "wrong" but too much of some things. Serious readers want less fluff. Still in all I would recommend it especially to the younger women and the ones who want decent romances.

Classic Literature with a 21st Century Twist

Kristen Heitzmann is a master of her craft. Her style will prove to be a classic of our day. Her poetic words entice until you become part of this adventure of suspense, romance, tragedy and, thankfully, a bit of comic relief. The lives of Lance and Rese intertwine in unseen, multifaceted ways. Rese, hardened by her past, seeks peace in opening a bed and breakfast where the land gives life to wine. Lance pursues a mysterious family quest while serving as her chef/maid/gardener. He voices her thoughts before she feels them, but is he real? Is the God he shares real? Two needy people searching. Along the way, there is a long-lost diary, a skeleton, and a seductress... along with a dog who rides a motorcycle (not by himself, of course ;-), an elderly neighbor with watchful eyes and heart, and tempting Italian cuisine. It's an amazing journey. Go for it!

Love love love this book. Some complain about the sensuality between Rese and Lance, being this is Christian fiction. But I didn't think courting/kissing/physical attracton was sinful. And these temptations make the characters easy to relate to. I love the way Lance applies the book of Isaiah to his own motivations, and continually tries to seek out the Lord's guidance, failing, trying again, just like most of us. The plot is very interesting, the characters charismatic, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

    Enjoyed

I will read more by this author. A love story, christian, mystery. 450 pages of story. No sex but some inuendo. Mild violence. I wish the hero had not been so perfect, the best friend so abused and the book a little less preachy. All that aside, this was a pretty good book. I hope Harriet Klausner will grow up someday and quit spoiling books for other readers. She seems like a spiteful, mean, lemon sucking, old woman, without much joy in her life, wanting to take other's pleasure away. I would recommend this book to readers ages 16 and up.

    Highly Recommend

I really enjoyed this book and was eager to read the next books in the series to "solve the mystery." I have read other books by Kristen Heitzmann and have not been disappointed with the story lines in any of them. This is a great, wholesome read set in the California wine country.
The descriptions of the area make me wish I could visit there sometime.
The underlying mystery makes it a great read.

    Ehh

It was boring. Good plot but it dragged on and the romance was too light and short. Very disapointing.

    'Secrets' unveiled...

Lance Michelli came to the old villa with one purpose in mind: unbury the dark secrets of his Nonna (Grandmother) Antonia's past, and free the old woman from the blackness of her present. But there was someone in his way - Rese Barrett, the new owner of the villa. Falling in love with Rese was the last thing Lance wanted. The most unlikely romance on earth... Yet just when things were starting to fall into place, people from Lance's past arrive at the villa, and the secrets he's hidden so long begin to come to the light. Will the truth destroy everything Lance and Rese have fought for, including their love? * * * Secrets is a rich and vivid novel, pulsing with life. Rese, Lance, and a horde of other persons travel through the pages of the novel so naturally that the reader wants to believe they are real. Unfortunately, Hetizmann fills the novel with sexual tension and inuendo. Lance and Rese spend more time kissing than Lance spends going to Mass. And while the author wants us to believe Lance is a devout person, his talks with God, and the brief moments the characters discuss faith, seem to be tossed into the novel as an afterthought. The neighbor, Evvy, is an exception to this: she lives and breathes her faith. It is, after all, all she has left. Secrets is an intense story - a good read. It's unfortunate Heitzmann's characters just couldn't heed the instruction of a wise man: 'Flee also youthful lusts.'

    Good reading

I loved the story line however i think the author missed a good opportunity by adding the physical tension. I liked the characters however, i think i would have liked Lance bringing Noona to the burial.

    Excellent

In New York, Nonna Antonia suffers a stroke and is unable to speak, but manages to ask her grandson Lance Mitchelli to go on a quest to find something, but he has no idea what it is. He travels to Liguria, Italy where Nonna¿s cousin Sister Anna is in a nunnery and she sends him to Sonoma, California in search of his Nonna¿s SECRETS in the villa she once lived in years ago.......................... Rese Barrett needs to prove to her deceased father that she can renovate the old villa into a B&B as well as any man could. Lance obtains a job as a cook/maid at the villa hiding his relationship to Nonna, a previous owner. As Rese and Lance work together, he searches for the SECRETS, but tries to hide his growing attraction to his employer who feels the same way. As they fall in love, he worries how she will react to his quest with each looking for heavenly intervention...................... SECRETS is an engaging contemporary romance starring two wonderful lead protagonists (though Lance is too adept at seemingly everything) and a fine somewhat eccentric support cast. The story line is character driven as Rese and Lance do not want love, but cannot stop the feelings between them. Nonna¿s SECRETS will intrigue the audience as like Rese fans will become obsessed to know what she truly wants and hope he delivers it without hurting or losing Rese. The underlying message is simply with God and love even an antihero can become a champion............................ Harriet Klausner

This was a great book!  I had already read the second one in the series, and was curious to see what came before.  I have loved everything I have read by Kristen Heitzmann, as she knows how to tell a story with the greatest details that make it completely real, and this story was no exception!  Now I look forward to reading the next in this series!

As a book that makes you think, this one is tops. I love the characters and the plot. I look forward to books two and three. I picked this because I thought it would just be a "fun" read, but the depths of emotions can hit home. I am a Christian and have been going through some crisis in my life. This is not a self help book, but it does make one think.

    Great book!

I found this to be a great book. I was very intrigued. Heitzmann is a great writer so much so that I wanted to be a part of the book. Believe me when I tell you, if the characters were real with and there was a third proposal and Rese didn't say yes I'd be shouting " I'll take him honey!" We all know the struggles of the flesh, but in my opinion Lance is a great example of a christian man trying to find his way in the world. As temptations arise, Lance is able to resist. He did much better than some real life Christians would have done. However, God is a God of mercy and grace. The series was great and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

    Worst book ever

At first I thought it was just a slow start, but it just never took off. I literally skipped entire pages of the book just to get to the end and see what happened and the end was no better than the beginning. Oh, and if you're not religious stay away. I attend church regularly and still found the inclusion of the regilious references outlandish and almost as if she is preaching rather than telling a mystery/love story. Overall, don't waste your time.
