At times you almost forget it is written in the present. It has the sense of the old gothic novel. So much is happening att Hallstead house but who is behind it. The ending willsurprise you.

I loved this book, it has a great plot and mystery to it. It has been awhile since I read a book that held me till the end , making you guess who it might be. There was one character I wanted to beat up in the book, lol, but in the end the character turned out not being so bad. I would recommend this to all mystery readers .

I enjoyed this from the first page to the last. It takes place on the St. Lawrence River, Thousand Islands, NY. One thing I enjoy is looking up some of the places they visit in the book and look on the web. Makes my reading so much more interesting. Mystery, romance and history of the Thousand Islands. Great read for the summer!

I really enjoyed the setting of this mystery. I know nothing about the St. Lawrence river islands so enjoyed the descriptions of the lands. The mystery was just OK, nothing too dramatic. I would try this author again.

Thanks Amy Trade, I loved your other book and this one was simply delightful. Its the first mystery book that I can remember being set in the Thousand Islands. Since I live in Central NY, Syracuse......it was a pleasure to read about an area I know and to be transported and "live" on the island with Alex and the rest. Thanks for the adventure. Can't wait for your next novel.

I really enjoyed this book! It kept me guessing and turning pages. Mystery mixed with a little bit of chaste romance. It kind of reminded me of Victoria Holt mysteries. Loved it!

I really did enjoy this book. It reminds me of a good Gothic romance. I did not give it a 5 only because in some places the author tended to ramble a bit. The book could have been shorter because of this. However, I did like the mystery and light romance.

Great storyline, great writing. I really enjoyed being transported to the Thousand Islands, immersing myself in the area as well as the story. I couldn't guess the outcome, which kept me on the seat of my pants through the end. Very enjoyable read. Look forward to future books by Amy Reade.

Plot was interesting including a twist I didn't see coming! Sometimes it was a little slow but interesting all the way through. The author developed very interesting characters as well as a mystery that kept me intriqued.

Title: Secrets of Hallstead House Author: Amy M Reade Published: 7-17-14 Publisher: Kensington Books Pages: 224 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub Genre: Romance; Ghost; Women's Fiction ISBN: 9781601832993 ASIN: B00103QR70 Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley . Mary Stoddard came to Hallstead Island as a private duty nurse for the elderly widow Alexandria Hallstead who is recuperating from a broken hip. While Alexandria is warm and welcoming the house staff and Alexandria's family are not. As Mary learns her way around the vast home family secrets come to light. When death comes to call Mary begins to sift through the long buried secrets and mysteries hidden within the walls of Hallstead House. Can Mary find the answers before she becomes a footnote in the history of the mysteries surrounding the Hallstead family and their home. With a steady pace this book flow pretty smoothly scene from scene. With just a few patches that seemed a little rushed and disjointed, but overall a mystery with enough clues and leads to keep you guessing till the end. I would be more than willing to read any books by Ms. Reade to see where she goes next and watch her style grow and expand.

Macy Stoddard takes a nursing job on a remote island to help her get past the death of her adopted parents and a painful breakup with her boy-friend. She is unwelcome at the Hallstead House by the majority of the relatives and staff that are there. Macy tries to ignore the resentment on a daily basis while working to get Alex, her patient back to her usual independent self after a broken hip. Macy quickly finds herself involved in many unusual situations and uncovering dark, long buried secrets. This book is a quick read with a lot of twists and turns. Hold on tight for a great emotional ride.
