Wonderfully Romantic and Inventive. I absolutely love it. All of a sudden everything happens to Kathleen O'Malley, her whole family dies in the great Chicago fire in 1871 next she loses her husband to death, her daughter gets taken from her by her husbands parents, she moves out west to become a mail order bride to a Mr. Tom Harned who has lost his wife and three newborn children who have all died and is left with his six year old son Caleb. Its a story all about forgiveness and religion. You will not be dissapointed.

This slow was written so straight forward and plain in the beginning it was hard to believe it was written for adults. It was not the type of writing style I am accustomed to from the Lacey's. The story was a nice weave of a love that started between two people that society considered an unsuitable match due to their "stations" in life and unfortunately one of the sets of parents felt the same way. There is a lot of loss and suffering throughout this book for Kathleen. You begin to wonder just how much death and loss one character should possibly have to face especially in a fiction book. She and Peter decide to make a go of things regardless of their stations in life but tragedy strikes again. Kathleen struggles with this loss and bitterness and anger throughout the book and I admit I thought it was down right depressing for Kathleen at times but throughout the story she encounters friends and others who are telling her about Christ and salvation. She has one friend Hennie who refuses to give up on leading her to Christ. She is fortunate to find true love and God's love in this book. THere are many twists and turns that you have to endure in order to see how God can work in the lives of his people.
