Overview

Gelis MacKenzie is one of the most desirable heiresses in all the Western Highlands. She is the youngest and much adored daughter of the indomitable Black Stag of Kintail, Duncan MacKenzie, who was the hero of Welfonder's novel DEVIL IN A KILT. Unfortunately, Gelis has been branded unmarriageable, but not for lack of masculine interest. No matter how lofty the ancestry, how deep the purse, or how mighty the sword arm, nary a one of her suitors is good enough for her father. Although he loves Gelis fiercely and knows he must someday see her settled and wed, Duncan isn't quite ready to let her go.

But now Duncan has received an offer for Gelis's hand in marriage that he is honor-bound to accept-and it comes from the worst possible quarter. The suitor, Ronan MacRuari of Castle Dare, is the last man Duncan MacKenzie would wish for a son-in-law. Known as the Raven, Ronan is the scion of a dark clan that has been marked by a deadly curse.

Ronan and Gelis are instantly attracted to one another, but they are immediately estranged. Ronan's last two wives have died abruptly and he doesn't want to see his vivacious newly-wed Gelis suffer the same fate, so he distances himself from her as much as possible. In the meantime, Ronan searches for the Raven Stone, a fabled treasure that he believes holds the power of the curse over his clan. But Gelis has fallen in love with her new husband, and she's determined to help him. Though Ronan doesn't know it, Gelis also has the gift of second-sight, and she has seen a future in which she is destined to help redeem her cursed husband.

    Not a good book

This book is possibly the worst romance novel I have ever read. And that's saying alot considering the amount of books a read. Romance novels are my specialty, in fact scottish romances are my favorite. But this one is just not good. You should all read Julie Garwood's series starting with "The Secret". Great books. After reading Julie Garwood I'm afraid I can't find anything impressive about this book.

    A new author for me

I had not read any books by this author before, but enjoyed this enough that I went looking for more of her books.

It was a romantic historical novel with just a touch of fantasy. It incorporates characters from some of her earlier books, so you might want to check those out, but I didn't find that necessary in order to enjoy this one.

    a great paranormal historical romance

Following the death of his second wife Ronan ¿The Raven¿ MacRuari vows no more marriages. He fears for the life of any future bride at his home Castle Dare as he believes he is either paranormally cursed or haunted by an unknown mortal adversary with access to his home; though he leans towards the supernatural because the natural explanation means a friend or family member has been killing his wives.

However, the twice widower is placed in a quandary when he must marry a MacKenzie to pay off a family debt to the clan. Laird MacKenzie sends a euphoric Lady Gelis to be The Raven¿s third bride. She has the gift of sight and has seen her intended in a vision. She prepares to bring sunshine into his heart while confronting the dark forces of evil who need her dead in order to possess the Raven Stone that MacRuari owns.

SEDUCING A SCOTTISH BRIDE is a great paranormal historical romance starring two caring individuals whose love puts them at odds with each other. He would rather be celibate than place his Lady Gelis in harm; she would rather battle the entire forces of hell than give up her love. Fans will read this in one delightful sitting so set aside the time.

    Different

Lady Gelis MacKenzie yearns for love, the everlasting kind. Her father, hesitant to all suitors, is determined to keep her close and at home. Until a long-standing debt is called upon to be collected, and her father¿s honor must obey it. Gelis has already had a vision of her suitor, a darkly seductive man, with wounds that run deep. When she finally meets her betrothed and learns of his family¿s curse that has haunted them for generations, she determines that curses are not to be believed. With two previous wives in the ground, Ronan MacRuari, known also as the Raven, weds Gelis only to satisfy his clan. He knows that loving her could unleash the curse and put her in mortal danger. But as he comes to know her, and their passionate desires flare, he begins to wonder if Gelis isn¿t the key to lifting the curse that has plagued them. Determined to protect her at all costs, he¿ll fight the dangerous forces that threaten her, even if it means closing off his heart to what it truly wants.
The only issue I had with the book was this curse. Well, not the curse itself, but the explanation of it. It was given in bits throughout the story, but I still don¿t feel any closure in fully understanding it. This is part of a series, I believe, so it is possible that it is further explained better in one of the other books.
The plot flowed well and I adored the characters. I loved the side-story with the secondary characters, Anice and Hugh, too. This was a great mix if historical and paranormal romance. The setting and her depiction of it was superb. Now I want to go to Scotland!
If you are seeking a one-of-a-kind romance, full of action and steam, pick up Seducing a Scottish Bride, by Sue-Ellen Wellfonder!
