He's the only man she's ever loved . . .
For ages, it seems, advice columnist Annabelle Swift has loved Derek Knightly, editor-owner of The London Weekly, from a distance. Determined to finally attract her boss's attention, she seeks advice from her loyal readers—who offer Annabelle myriad suggestions . . . from lower-cut bodices (success!) and sultry gazes (disaster!) to a surprise midnight rendezvous (wicked!).
She's the only woman he's never noticed . . .
Derek never really took note of his shy, wallflower lady writer. But suddenly she's exquisite . . . and he can't get Annabelle out of his mind! She must be pursuing someone, but who? For some inexplicable reason, the thought of her with another man makes Knightly insanely jealous.

I was expecting much more from the love scenes. Annebelle was too nice for her own good.

Book 4 in "The Writing Girls" but can be read as a stand alone with re-appearing characters. Follow Annabelle Swift and Derek Knightly on a journey to find love. Annabelle, one of Knightly's "Writing Girls",who has loved him from the first day she meet him.He has never noticed her until, she desires to seduce him totally and completely with a bit of help from her loyal readers. Filled with passion, desire, witty banter, jealous, discovery of passion, loyal readers, secrets, and love. For a fun read with two characters who will capture your heart even though Knightly is a bit of a stuck in the mud when it comes to love. He will steal your heart too. Fast paced with an interesting plot. Certain to delight readers from historical lovers,to newspaper lovers, scandal sheet lovers with tantalizing passion. I went into this book expecting a lot. The previous books in this series have been wonderful--full of humor, strong heroines, awesome heroes and unique storylines. You connected with the characters and completely understood why they got together and enjoyed reading their journey--with numerous hijinks and mistakes-- to couple hood.
In the case of Seducing Mr. Knightly, I had problems understanding why these two were paired together. Annabelle is convinced that she is in love with Knightly and is destined to be with him. And since a few years of working together hasn't brought them together, she is going to change her aspects about herself to make him finally love her back. Because everyone knows changing yourself for love always works out... And as smart and observant as Mr. Knightly is, he never noticed that Annabelle had a marked preference for him, although everyone else in the newspaper office has noticed about it. Even the reporter who only covers Parliamentary news knows of her feelings! So we have a woman who is changing herself to make her more attractive to the man and said man who only notices her when she stops fawning over him. *shaking head* To me, they were unbelievable as a couple.
I also had a problem with the timidity of Annabelle; I like my female characters (regardless of the time period) to have a show of spirit or determination. More often than not, Annabelle was meek, accepting, and overshadow. It wasn't like the wallflower romances where the heroines were only retiring because of outside forces. Annabelle's very personality was one of subservience, even when New Annabelle came out to play, she was still a submissive personality (and not in a good way).
The scenes where Annabelle shined with wit and humor kept this book from being mediocre or just okay.
I am not saying this is bad, but for me it was a deal breaker. I like to read about characters with personalities similar my own. And Annabelle in no way resembled how I saw myself. I tried to forget my bias and read it from an outsiders perspective (trying to forget the other books), but I was continually kicked out of the story when Annabelle did or said something totally opposite of what I imagined a lead heroine should do.
If you don't mind your heroines to be the quiet type and less forceful, you would probably enjoy this book. For me, it just did not work. And it was especially hard to read this book after reading Three Schemes and a Scandal where the heroine was so in charge and so full of life. Seducing Mr. Knightly wasn't bad (I did finish it after all) but it wasn't as great a story as the previous ones were for me. *Review copy provided by publisher for honest review.

This was my favorite of the Writing Girls...except for the drunken serenade by Lord Roxbury.
