From the Publisher
"Ms. Jordan proves herself a marvelous storyteller."

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Former Harlequin author Jordan (The Heart Breaker) writes highly charged erotic historical romances. Her latest--set in 1810 England--opens with a graphic bondage scene, and the thrust of the book is the sexual education of a beautiful but repressed widow. Damien "Lord Sin" Sinclair keeps company with a depraved aristocratic set devoted to carnal pleasures. Lady Vanessa Wyndham falls into his clutches when her scapegrace brother falls afoul of Sin in an incident involving the accidental crippling of Sin's sister. Challenged to cards, the young man loses heavily, and it's up to Lady V to convince Sin not to foreclose. A nasty bargain is struck: she'll become Sin's mistress to pay off the family debt. But ultimately it becomes clear that the notorious nobleman has met his match: "He had tutored her in the arts of love-making, but she had taught him to love." Readers who devour the erotic historicals of Susan Johnson (see above review) will enjoy this, but those turned off by scenes featuring masturbation and ivory dildos may choose to pass. Read an Excerpt

London, May 1810
Despite the lateness of the hour, the private gaming hell boasted a sizable crowd. Liquor flowed freely, the guests quaffing great quantities of claret and champagne along with a delicious late supper. Yet beneath the laughter and conversation, a serious undercurrent coursed through the gamesters and dandies and nobles playing deep at macao and hazard and faro.

From a discreet distance across the card room, Vanessa Wyndham watched her nemesis at the faro table. Even with her stomach tied in knots, she tried to study him with dispassion.

Lord Sin. The appellation seemed exceptionally appropriate. She could see no signs of dissolution on the ruthlessly handsome face, yet there was a wicked knowledge in those penetrating gray eyes that compelled attention.

Vanessa shook herself, aware she was guilty of staring. Yet Lord Sinclair was a captivating man, with his raven hair and chiseled, harshly beautiful features. His physical form matched his arresting, dark masculinity--tall, lithe, muscular, graceful. His exquisitely tailored black coat seemed to have been poured over his elegant shoulders.

She had come to London expressly to seek him out. To prevent him from destroying her family out of revenge.

Apparently she was not the only one whose interest was roused by the Baron Sinclair. Behind her, a whispered conversation between two ladies caught her ear.

"I see Damien is wreaking havoc at the gaming tables as usual."

"I cannot comprehend why," the second voice complained petulantly. "He's rich as a nabob. He has no need to add to his fortune."

The first woman laughed. "Come now, you are simply piqued because he has chosen to ignore you all evening. Confess, darling, if the irresistible Lord Sin were to beckon, you would swoon at his feet."

Unwillingly Vanessa's gaze strayed back to the notorious nobleman, as it had all evening. She could well understand why women found him fascinating. That combination of polished elegance and raw virility commanded notice, while his abundance of wicked charm presented an alluring danger to the female sex.

Vanessa shivered, despite the myriad candles blazing in crystal chandeliers that lent a welcome warmth to her bare shoulders. She'd worn the empire-waist gown of emerald satin even though it was three seasons out of date, hoping the low neckline might appeal to a rakehell of the baron's stamp.

He was known as Lord Sin among the beau monde. Since the early days of her disastrous marriage, Vanessa had been aware of the infamous aristocrat. Although they'd never been formally introduced, they had once traveled in similar circles of society. Damien Sinclair was renowned for his scandalous conquests in the glittering ballrooms and bedrooms of Europe. It was said he took wickedness to new heights.

How could such a man be prevailed upon? How could she even summon the courage?

She'd had her fill of rakes. Her late husband had given her a disdain for profligates and libertines. Every feminine instinct warned her to keep her distance from the wicked Lord Sinclair. Yet she was desperate enough to approach him--this evening, if she could manage it.

"Will you call the turn, my lord?" the female dealer asked the baron.

A sudden hush settled over the card room.

Vanessa was familiar enough with the game of faro to know that to "call the turn" was to bet on the order in which the last three cards would be dealt from the box. The house held the bank, and the odds on the wager were five to one.

Lord Sinclair's arresting features wore a casual, even slightly bored, expression as he predicted the order of the deal--deuce, six, queen--as if there were not a fortune at stake.

Vanessa held her breath along with the rest of the crowd as the dealer turned the cards over one by one.... Deuce of spades. Six of clubs. Queen of hearts.

    Her Best Book

This is THE Nicole Jordan that was a keeper; her other books kind of veer around 'okay, but not great', for me anyway. But this one has a superb plot; it's very tightly written & the characters are believable. Also, last but definitely not least, it's very sensual. Highly recommended!

    devilishly bad, and fun!!!

Ok, so im not some person of high importance, im just a high school student in southern Cali, but I do know a good book when i read one. And this was deffinitly that. I found myself reading it whenever i had a glimpse of free-time. Even some of my guy friends got into it. They would take it out in class and read it. (im sure you know what they were looking for!!) Then some of my girl friends started reading it. Before I knew it, i was 'The girl with the book.' But obviously this type of book is appealing to all kinds of young people. The girls like the romance, and the guys like...well...everything else. This is a book I will surely keep on my bookshelf!!!

Are you ready to be seduced?

This book certainly lives up to it's name. I waited a year searching every avenue for this book since reading 'The Heartbreaker', to no avail. When I finally found this book, I snatched it up in a heartbeat-and could not put it down! There are only a few books that will keep me thinking about the characters even when I'm not reading the book ( Whitney, My Love..The Bride..Whisper of Roses ), and this tops that category! This book offers a splendid array of romance, SEDUCTION, a glimpse of a promising friendship as well as humor. I think this is an excellent book and I can't wait until 'The Passion'. Excellent job Ms. Jordan!!

Not the taming of your typical rakehell

Nicole Jordan always tantalizes the senses. This piece is no exception. Tastefully done, her expicit scenes will keep you on edge while her character development is beyond compare. This plot, the taming of the rogue, takes on a new and refreshing avenue when examined through the eyes of this particular author. She does not 'dive' into syrupy drivel resolving her story like other authors are known to do. There is a mature approach taken to the development of relationships. It is always a pleasure to read Ms. Jordan's work. I look forward to reading 'The Passion' coming this fall.

    Seductive Regency romance

In 1810 England, Lord Damien ¿Lord Sin¿ Sinclair is irate to learn about his younger sister¿s crippling accident. The notorious rake plans to avenge his sibling¿s injury that he blames on Viscount Rutherford, Aubrey Trent who reneged on an elopement with an innocent Olivia. Damien also feels some guilt for neglecting his rustic sister over the years.
Damien begins his campaign to destroy Rutherford and soon holds Trent¿s marker after a game of piquet. The debt will destroy Trent and the lifestyle of the aristocrat¿s dependents. Trent¿s widowed sister Vanessa Wyndham pleads with Damien to forgive the debt, but soon offers herself as a companion to Olivia and a mistress to Lord Sin in lieu of payment of the debt. Damien accepts the offer not realizing how much he will soon love the intrepid Vanessa.
THE SEDUCTION is an interesting Regency romance that remains inside the sub-genre boundaries but contains an air of freshness due to the secondary characters. Sin lives up to his nickname as the typical arrogant noble and Vanessa is the typical beleaguered heroine. Olivia and Aubrey provide readers with a unique subplot that supplements the well-written main story line and succeeds in bringing another layer of delicious romance to the tale. Fans of Regency romances will fully enjoy Nicole Jordan¿s exciting battle of the sexes relationship drama.
Harriet Klausner
