I was hooked from the beginning of See Me and remained enthralled throughout. Abigail, hiding out from an abusive ex husband, owns a porn company. Sean, an ex-con out of luck and money hires on as one of her performers. The subject matter is serious -- you have two hurting, angst-ridden, distrustful individuals battered by their pasts struggling to connect, yet the book isn’t “heavy” or depressing, but hopeful and seductive as it pulls the reader along from page to page. I loved the idea of a woman porn entrepreneur and enjoyed the peek inside the day-to-day workings of a porn movie company (I know from interviewing author Pauline Allan on my blog that she did quite a bit of research for this book. It shows!). What is particularly strong about See Me is the character development, and the way Abigail and Sean struggle to overcome their distrust and build a relationship. It feels very real. Readers also may appreciate that Abigail is a Rubanesque heroine and not a Barbie doll.
