Overview

In the book praised by the Atlantic Monthly for its "lucid, and pungent prose that casts a melancholy light on the entire television industry," and described by the Saturday Review as "a vivid cardiogram…of devastating vignettes," attorney Geoffrey Cowan, who organized the landmark legal challenge to television's "Family Hour," plunges the reader into the secretive world of network politics. With a sense of immediacy and true dramatic flair, he explains the interplay of the personalities that dominate the industry: Norman Lear, William Paley, Fred Silverman, and other. And his highly knowledgeable, no-holds-barred investigation of censorship in action exposes as never before the real influence of sex and violence on prime-time television.
