Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Read and learn about the life cycle of a sunflower. Color photographs fill the pages and support the text; the captions provide additional information. There are diagrams that show the different stages in the life of a sunflower. Close-up snapshots capture a butterfly gathering nectar and a bee covered with pollen to show these insects' importance in the life cycle of the flower. Some children may need an introduction to the informational text features. Readers will need to know how to navigate the main text and the captions on the page. Bold print words in the main text are described in the glossary; most of the words in the glossary may be located in the main text through the index. Parents and teachers may find some helpful tips in the notes found at back of the book. This book is one of six from the "Life Cycle" series. The other five titles cover different animals. A couple more books that covered different plant life cycles (trees or bulbs) would have been nice for comparisons. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
