Children's Literature - Children's Literature
This is a small volume of photographs and descriptions of different types of seabirds. It will serve as an introduction to the varieties of these animals as there is not much depth. This is appropriate, however, as it is a book created for early readers--grades 1-3. The beautiful illustrations show the animals in the act of catching fish, flying, nesting, and flocking. At the end of the text, there is a two-page spread entitled "Words You Know" that lists, in alphabetical order, the names of the ten birds introduced in the book along with photographs. A basic index concludes the book, which is part of the "Rookie Read-About Science" series. 1999, Children's Press, Ages 6 to 9, $19.00 and $4.95. Reviewer: Candace Deisley
