I ran through the woods with no sense of general direction. The cool fall air made me stiff as I moved through the sea of leaves built up and undisturbed for ages. After a while, I noticed something bright out of the corner of my eye and turned.
The bunge chord! There it was, feet from me. I ran to it and looked down. The top of my bag was uncovered and there lied the .45, plain as day. I couldn't believe my luck. In the rush to get me outta here, the Reverends musta forgot it.
I picked it up and specks of rust flaked off of it. I looked down at the scar on my arm and flashbacks of that dreadful night came back to me. I shook them out of my head and slung the pack onto my shoulders.
Round two.
I hiked through the woods and was suprised by how confident I felt about coming face-to-face with the Guardian again. It almost made me laugh.
Until I heard a loud crunch off to my right.
I turned slowly, not able to see anything due to the bank in the hill. I approached cautiously and as quietly as possible, shrugging off my pack to make myself more mobile. I gazed down the hill and nearly threw up.
There, in the ditch below me was the Guardian feasting on a dead german shepard. Next to it lay the body of male police officer who appeared to be in his mid thirties from a distance. I turned my attention back to the grotesque scene unfolding before me.
The Guardian was facing away from me, it's bloodstained claws fishing around in the carcass of the police dog for every last ounce of flesh. I began creeping down the hill for what seemed like an eternity. I was halfway down and had my eyes locked on the beast before me.
Flaw on my part.
I didn't happen to notice the fallen tree branch in front of me and I stepped on it. I froze, wishing I was invisible. It snapped and the Guardian stopped eating. It froze. It's head pivoted around from side to side. It looked back down to it's meal. I was so sure I was in the clear that I took another step forward.
Suddenly it's upper body turned and it locked eyes on me. Blood dripped down it's chin and strands of flesh hund from it's mouth. It bolted straight for me in what looked like to be a gallop.
I ran straight up the hill and was reaching for my bag when it lunged, claws raised for the move that would finish me once and for all.
But not today!
I gripped my bag and swung it, putting all my force and momentum into it. It hit the Guardian and sent it sprawling out on the ground, yards away. On the downside, the momentum gathered from the swing and the weight of the backpack jerked me to the side, causing me to drop my gun somewhere in the leafs.
I scrambled around for my gun as the Guardian recovered. I felt my hand grip something warm and metallic and pulled. There it was! My lifeline!
But this was no time for thanks, this was life or death. I spun around just as the beast reared it's claws and swung. I aimed for it's head.
EXCITING, HUH? WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE THE VICTOR OF THIS STAND OFF, THE GUARDIAN OR THE MAIN CHARATER? CAST YOUR VOTE AND WE'LL SEE HOW THE STORY PLAYS OUT!
