Manning Marable is Professor of History and Political Science and Director, Institute for Research in African American Studies, Columbia University.

    I've placed this book on the mandatory reading list for my college students and think that other teachers will find this to be an asset in their classroom. I think this is a very readable book for popular audiences as well.
