Overview

Prior to making her final pledge as a druid, the young seer Sibeal visits the island of Inis Eala, where the Sight leads her to Felix, a survivor of a Norse shipwreck who has no memory of his past. As the island's healers struggle to keep Felix alive, he and Sibeal form a natural bond. But Sibeal's vocation is her true calling, and she must choose between the two things that tug at her soul-her spirituality and a chance at love...

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Sibeal of Sevenwaters, the teen fifth daughter of the Lord of Sevenwaters, has always known she wants to be a druid. In this romantic follow-up to 2008's Heir of Sevenwaters, Sibeal's uncle Ciaran, her mentor, orders her to spend a summer on the sheltered island of Inis Eala, away from her training, to determine whether the contemplative life is truly for her. At first, Sibeal thinks that Ciaran is punishing her. Then a sudden storm brings a shipwreck and several mysteries that challenge Sibeal's resolve and vocation. Why does the Norseman Knut seem to be holding something back from the islanders, and if Svala is Knut's wife, why is she so terrified of him? And who is the handsome, amnesiac man Sibeal has found washed up on shore? Readers will thrill to this strong, heartfelt tale of the Sevenwaters family and their magical exploits. (Dec.)
Library Journal
Sibeal, a druid in training, visits the warrior's island of Inis Eala preparatory to her final pledge. When her Sight leads her to the survivor of a shipwreck, a Norse scholar named Felix, the two form a bond despite Felix's amnesia. Soon Sibeal and Felix embark on a perilous journey that brings the young druid into conflict with her beliefs and her growing feelings for the man whose life she saved. This stand-alone novel set in the world of Marillier's "Sevenwaters" series (Daughter of the Forest; Son of the Shadows; Child of the Prophecy) combines adventure with quasihistorical detail in a Celtic-based story of love and sacrifice. VERDICT This well-written tale by a top-notch storyteller will appeal to the author's fans.

    A mixed bag

I love Juliette's previous works, but was initially unmoved by this work. The story seemed too slowto unfold, and felt a bit cliche to me. Still, I did find myself reading with more anticipation as the climax neared.

    Absolutely BRILLIANT!

A full, passionate story-- with characters, whose individual tales make them come alive. An whose plot bears a resemblance to "The Odyssey" by Homer.

Recommendation: "The Lost Years of Merlin" by T.A. Barron

Nearly As Good As The First

I've been a fan of Juliet Marillier ever since I picked up her book 'Daughter Of The Forest' back in the year 2000. I followed the Sevenwater Series up to this book and was finding it very hard to continue on seeing as I never found the characters as compelling as the first novel. Seer of Sevenwaters rekindled my love for this series. Sibeal is an amazing character filled with fortitude of the mind and body. Her dreams of becoming a druid are powerful, yet she is so determined in this vision that she is blinded to all other alternatives. She is stubborn, a bit pretentious, but wholeheartedly supportive of family and friends. The romance, which is bound to happen in a Juliet Marillier book, is a little too fast for my liking but it develops beautifully. The tale closely resembles that of the selkies, yet is its own entity. Well worth reading for its vision, crafting, and voice.

Another great addition to the Sevenwaters saga!

Another great addition to the Sevenwaters saga! In this one we follow Sibeal on her path to become a druid ,Ciaran has sent her to the island of Inis Eala to spend the summer with her sisters before she makes her final pledge to become a full druid. But as with all daughters of Sevenwaters her path takes some twists and turns. Also in this book we had some continuation of Clodagh and Cathal's story but their story is far from over so I look forward to more from them.

This was a really good story and I loved the look back in stories that were told in the hall it made me remember some of the details I had forgotten from the previous books since it has been awhile since I've read them. It also reminded me how many generations of the Sevenwaters family I have come to know and love. Sorcha's great grandchildren were born in this book and I guess I'd kind of forgotten just how far this story has come.

The story did wrap up but there is definitely more story to tell and look forward to the next book in this wonderful series.

This is an entertaining romantic fantasy

The fifth daughter of the Lord of Sevenwaters, teenager Sibeal of Sevenwaters has always dreamed of becoming a druid. Thus she is excited when she completes her training as all she has left to do to fulfill her goal is to take the vow. However, Sibeal's Uncle Ciaran directs her to drop her study in order to contemplate if she really wants to become a druid; as there is no change of mind once you commit. He sends her to the island of Inis Eala where her married sisters live for a summer of reflection in isolation.

Sibeal is angry with her mentor who she believes is punishing her although she cannot fathom why. A storm causes a shipwreck leaving several stranded voyagers. Sibeal is confused by the behavior of Knut the Norseman and his wife Svala who seems deathly afraid of her husband. The other survivor pulled safely from the water suffers from amnesia. To her shock Sibeal is attracted to this stranger with the memory loss, but also wonders what secrets have the married couple and perhaps the other survivor conceal from her and her family.

The latest Sevenwaters' family fantasy (see Daughter of the Forest and Heir of Sevenwaters) is an engaging entry starring a delightful intelligent daughter who must make choices not easy to select from as her life passion has a new passion. The story line starts off slow with much of what has gone on before overly rehashed to the chagrin of fans and glee of newcomers, but once Sibeal steps to the plate, the game accelerates. This is an entertaining romantic fantasy as the audience will wonder whether the heroine will select Druidism or love while also pondering who the amnesiac is.

    Another great book!

This book is agreat story of Sibeal the seer of the Sevenwaters family. The story developed a bit slowly, but was worth it when it finally took off. I want to know when the next one is due out? There has to be some loose ends tied up, even wish there has been an epiloge for this one. Such a place ro end this tale- wanted the rest of ending! There is a storm brewing for the family, will be interesting to see if another book is being planned?! And what happens next! G

    GREAT addition to series...

This book is among the finest of Marillier's Sevenwaters Series. I highly rank the plot, emotion, and talent exhibited in this novel to that shown in her first two Sevenwaters books: Daughter of the Forest and Son of the Shadows. I have already recommended this book to my friends and relatives who enjoy Marillier, so I do not hesitate to recommend it to you, dear reader. I hope you enjoy it as much as I!

    A must read for 2011!

Again, Juliet Marillier brings to life her characters in this new and wonderful edition to her Sevenwaters novels. This book was a joy to read and nothing short of what I would expect from a tale of devout love and courage. With just the right touch of fantasy and folklore, Seer of Sevenwaters, is a book that will remain in both your heart and mind long after reading the last page.

    Fantastic Read

Juliet Marillier never ceases to impress me with her amazing writing style and character development. The Sevenwaters series has remained one of my favorites for over ten years. This story was just as delightful as the rest. Immediately I was drawn to Sibeal and Ardal, intrigued by their connection to each other. The mysterious Svala also kept my attention. I was determined to discover the secrets hidden behind Ardal's amnesia, Svala's silence, and Knut's trickery. This book had me hanging on every word. Truly fantastic.
