Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Rammstein's second album, Sehnsucht, finds the German prog metal band making a great leap forward. While the group still sounds a little unfocused in places, their blend of industrial noise, grinding metal guitars, and operatic vocals is staggeringly powerful. No other European metal band sounds like Rammstein, nor does any American metal group -- this is powerful, gothic metal that is unlike anything else in late-'90s metal. Sehnsucht may be an acquired taste, but it's one worth acquiring.

    I Also Recommend:

My Favorite Of Rammstein's Thus Far!

I have had this CD for a while now, and I usually only review recent stuff that I have picked up, but in light of having bought Mutter just recently & loving it, I figured on top of that review, I would also go ahead and review this one, since it is my favorite of theirs that I have heard so far. This album is definitely the epitomy of what a good industrial rock/metal album should be. There are other great industrial albums out there too, but this is by far the best one I have heard so far, though I am still checking out different albums & artists in this genre. If you love good rock/metal stuff, and have an open mind about music in different languages, this album is definitely for you! I can only understand certain few words in this album, but it is still great. It has inspired me to maybe even start learning German one of these days. Great rock/metal listening folks! Pick it up if you haven't already!

    GERMAN IN AMERICA

In case you didnt know 'Sehnsucht' in german means 'Longing'. Although this album is 10 years old Sehnsucht in my opinion is Rammstein's definitive album, their song 'Hast' is the song that first got me to become a fan, it is highly addictive once you hear it you have to keep hearing it. So if you are hesitant on listening to Rammstein or just want something new, pick up Sehnsucht, skip 'Herzeleid', 'Mutter' 'Reise, Reise', and 'Rosenrot' and pick up 'Sehnsucht' then if you become a fan like me. Then get 'Mutter' 'Reise, Reise' 'Rosenrot' 'Herzeleid' in that order. But just dont let anyone who is fluent in german listen to it, it can get kind of..'alternative' (Buck Dich, Spiel Mit Mir) If they don't play away!

    A-W-E-S-O-M-E CD!!!!!

This was the 1st Rammstein CD I got just cuz it had "Du Hast" on it (hasn't everybody just bought it cuz of that?), but I listened to it and instantly fell in love with music and the interesting vocals! All of the songs on this CD are awesome, having their own melodie and whatnot! This is absolutely a must have for any Rammstein fan!!!!

    A surprising discovery!

When I got this CD, I had no idea what was in store. Having only heard "Du Hast", I was hoping I wasn't wasting my money. Those thoughts quickly vanished when I popped this CD into my player and my ideas of rock music were forever changed. The sound of the music is amazing and unlike anything I've heard before or since. The CD kicks off with the title track and "ramms" it home! (Pardon the pun!) All the songs are excellent in sound and mood. The only downside are the two "extra" songs on the US release; they are English versions of "Du Hast" and "Engel". The original beauty of the songs is lost, so I didn't like them very much. Aside from that, Rammstein is a very unique band and should be enjoyed with "gusto"!

    Rammstein kicks butt!

I am a diehard Metallica fan (even though they supposedly sold out), and Rammstein has butted their way into my stereo with their music. It is a shame that more people do not listen to them, as they are awesome! There are not enough stars to rate this album!

Rammstein again stays at the top!!!!! True metal shock rock band RAMMSTEIN!!

DAM* MAN! Listen to this CD and you'll be shocked! Nothing in the America comes close to this german DERANGED band. I must say that 'Engel' is a kick a** song with BoBo's voice Helping it make #1. Du Hast (You HAVE) is the best song not to mension the special YOU HATE version (in english but not translated) making the Cd a hit to all metal fans. There is nothing better than hearing Rammstein beat slogans like 'BUCK DICH' (Bend down) or the great keyboarding and teutonic madman sing soft, gloomy tunes like 'Klavier' (Piano). If your looking for an absolute kick as*,dark, heavy, scary, head banging CD then get Sehnsucht. After you survive listening to this CD you'll become addicted to it and listen to it again, and again till' your ears explode. RAMMSTEIN mannaged to kick as* stomping on any cd by Kid Rock,Korn,Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park while they kept their pounding guitars, blowing fans away with the key boards and not to forget Till Lindemanns wonderful voice. It may be in German but He doesn't scream, growl,or mumble. More than you can say about Kittie or Korn. ICH LIEBEN RAMMSTEIN!!!!!!

    Sehnsucht hits it home!

This is Rammsteins second CD they didn't improve their first--it would be really hard to improve on the first album, it's that good--but they did manage to change their sound a bit from metal to where now it is more industrial. Great songs include Sehnsucht, Engel, Du Hast, and Eifersucht. You can listen to this whole CD and not be disappointed.
