María S. Falcón, mejor conocida como
"Soky" por su familia inmediata y sus mejores amigos y amigas, nació en Puerto Rico. María creció desde niña en un hogar en el cual su madre, Evangelina Pérez y su padrastro, Regino Márquez, le enseñaron a no conformarse con vivir una vida sin propósito. La autora se graduó de la escuela superior, Alfonso Casta Martínez en Maunabo, Puerto Rico. A pesar de las necesidades económicas que enfrentaron sus padres en los 1970's, la autora pudo ingresar al el Colegio Regional de Humacao, de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, bajo una beca especial.
Luego adquirió una Maestría en Consejería de Rehabilitación en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras.
Después de un noviazgo de dos años se casó con Edwin Falcón en el 1975. De esa hermosa unión nacieron Carlos Enrique y María del Carmen. Edwin y su madre fueron los pilares angulares a través de los momentos más felices y difíciles de su vida. El amor a Dios fue la piedra angular que sostuvo su matrimonio, su familia y su trabajo como consejera. Ese amor a Dios fue más fundamental para su sobrevivencia cuando su esposo murió poco después de que su madre muriera. Sin embargo, la autora tuvo que lidiar primeramente con su coraje hacia Dios antes de superarse de la agonía que la muerte física de su madre y esposo causaron en su vida. Este libro refleja el viaje que todos tarde o temprano vamos a enfrentar.
