Editorial Reviews
David B. Weshampel
Seismosaurus is more than just the largest land-living animal yet known. Thanks to the work of Dave Gillette, it is also turning into one of the best known and most interesting of all of the gigantic sauropod dinosaurs. This book recounts the fascinating tale of the discovery, the biology, and the evolution of Seismosaurus and many of its relatives.Earth Sciences History
Here is a work destined to be of great historical importance in the field of paleontology...There have been no comparably detailed exegeses on the history of a single excavation.Library Journal
The success of John R. Horner and James Gorman's Digging Dinosaurs (Workman, 1988) proved that there is much interest in personal accounts of the discovery and study of dinosaurs. This book, by a lesser-known dinosaur hunter, is in the same genre, relating the discovery and study of Seismosaurus, a colossal creature related to the better-known Brontosaurus. Gillette's account, involving descriptions of high-tech methods used in the excavation and analysis of Seismosaurus, is somewhat more technical than Digging Dinosaurs. Nevertheless, it should appeal to a similar audience. Although larger in format and steeper in price than need be, it is highly recommended for medium and large public libraries.-Joseph Hannibal, Cleveland Museum of Natural HistoryBooknews
Another popular science winner from Columbia University Press. This is an account of the discovery, excavation, and study of a newly described species that lived 150 million years ago in central New Mexico. Well written, heavily illustrated--mostly in color--and with powerful paintings by Mark Hallett. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)Earth Sciences History
