Overview

In 2051, commercial time travel became a global reality. Opportunities abounded for curious history buffs, futurists, and corrupt entrepreneurs. Selected Shorts and Other Methods of Time Travel is a spellbinding collection of 37 tales that explore time travel tourism and its repercussions.

In various settings ranging from Earth to deep space, Selected Shorts presents tales of those brave (or foolish) enough to adventure through the space-time continuum. Explore an era devastated by the Worlds War of 2267, cluttered with time-traveling tourists and swindlers, terrorized by the all-powerful Icelandic Mafia, endangered by ruthless corporations, and threatened by vigilante space aliens.

The future as we know it will never be the same.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Time-travel tourism gets an in-depth exploration in this unsatisfyingly bland debut collection. Working from the basic premise that the first time-travel business was established in 2052, Blue World founder Goodberg offers up 37 episodes, ranging from one-page vignettes to full-fledged stories, exploring alternate time lines, grandfather paradoxes, human-alien relations, and get-rich-quick schemes, often with clever twists and unexpected results. While the concept has potential and the world-building is extensive, the actual results vary from barely satisfactory to downright baffling. The individual stories often lack solid resolution or character depth, suffer from weak writing, and relying on Twilight Zone–style surprise endings. Unrelated pithy sayings and pointed social commentaries separate the stories. It all adds up to a mildly entertaining assortment of mostly mediocre shorts that never really takes off. (Feb.)
Good Choice Reading
You do not need to be a sci-fi fan, or a time-traveling fan to love this book. Does it help? Absolutely. But each story is so good all on it's own, that I guarantee everyone will find at least ten that they love.
Frontlist
This book will be a 'need to have' for young adults, but everyone will enjoy it.
SciFi & Fantasy Books
There is a real quirky energy to the book, with well-written prose and subtle humour. Each story manages to convey the intended message with great delivery and there are some really interesting ideas presented here. Selected Shorts and other Methods of Time Travel is a great collection of time travel short stories, quirky, fun and above all a great read.
Midwest Book Review
The timeline as we know it meets the cruel tendencies of the tourists, and the tourists meet the cruel tendencies of time. Selected Shorts and Other Methods of Time Travel is an excellent pick of short fiction, highly recommended.

Selected Shorts and Other Methods of Time Travel had me confused most of the time. I would get into a story and it would just drop off with no real ending or closing. I really enjoyed the way the stories were written and I enjoyed the mini-stories between each short more than the actual short stories. I'm still boggled as to what I should get from reading this book. Each story was a bit odd and some had that dry sense of humor. But, by the end of each I was thoroughly confused and constantly re-analyzing the stories. I then thought, well maybe each story is to bring to light what people don't normally think about each day. Each short story has an underlying meaning but some of them didn't quite stand out as much as others. Overall this book had me feeling lost. I recommend this book to anyone who can appreciate the bizarre and metaphorical sense of Selected Shorts! Review based on ARC copy

Review based on ARC. This is David Goodberg's debut and a collection of shorts. I almost hesitate to put that in the beginning of the review because a lot of people avoid short story collections. However, if you like time-travel and a wry sense of humor, read it! It was a thoroughly enjoyable collection. Again, I was grateful to follow a bit of a drag-read (a different book) with something so full of life, recharging my reading-stamina. The short stories in Selected Shorts are amusing with often serious underlying morals or implications. Following each short story was a blurb, lesson, thought, etc. -- sort of a mini-story that filled up less than a page. These blurbs were at least as enjoyable as the stories themselves and often gave me pause. The stories are tied together by the world that has been established by Goodberg, even if the characters within the stories have nothing to do with one another. (e.g., the companies that developed time travel are frequently discussed, even if a character from the first story would never come into contact with a character from the 10th story, who lived a couple hundred years earlier/later in time). Overall, the book kept my interest and each story only made me want to read the next more. Oh, and the illustrations warrant note: they were a perfect companion! I refrain from saying anything more beyond, Pick it up and read it. It is worth your time. (hehhehheh...) Recommended for people who like time travel and have a sense of humor... not to mention Hope for our future!

This book was AMAZING!! I was sad when it was over. I really enjoyed all of the stories that were in here. If you ever read and enjoyed Aesop's Fables as a child, you will love Selected Shorts and Other Methods of Time Travel as an adult. If you are not thinking about how you view things in your life when you are finished with one or more of these short stories, you are not reading the book correctly. The stories are entertaining, and make you evaluate many things going on around you. I am happy to have been chosen to review this book, I highly recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor and a brain.
