Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Denise Daley
Selena Gomez is an actress who starred on the Disney TV show Wizards of Waverly Place. Today she is a popular movie actress and recording artist with a bright future. Selena was born in Grande Prairie, Texas in 1992 to a mom who was only 16 years old. As a young child she got her first part on the TV show Barney. In 2007 she got her big break, landing a part on the Wizards series. The series won several awards and Selena's fame began to soar. This book has a few short chapters devoted to her younger years but surprisingly, there are not many photographs from her childhood. Her immediate experiences after Wizards are limited, so the book contains some discussion about her "stylish" appearance and her efforts to stay grounded. The photographs in the book are bright and glossy and they are set against decorative backgrounds. Additionally, there are quotes from Selena scattered throughout the book. Young readers will be impressed and maybe even inspired by Selena. This book is part of the "Star Biographies" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley
